Probably been asked before but why was the T350 called a T350 when the others in Peters Wheelers reign named after mythical beasts

Anyone know ?

Wasn't it from Tamora and 350bhp?

A silly deviation from the historic convention.

The Speed 6 cars are/were referred to as the 'T' cars so maybe that along with the BHP?

As I understand it, the T comes from Tamora, the 350 is the power in bhp and the C is Coupe (or T for Targa).
Don't know how "official" that is, but it probably came from one of the TVR related books or magazines that I've read over the years. HTH.

Which of course in itself is odd because it's not a Targa: it's a T-Top!! If you want a targa, you have to get a Tuscan. There was definitely something in the water up in Blackpool - and we love it biggrin

... technically speaking that is, as Porsche still has the trademark for that denomination smile

Isn't the Tamora 350bhp anyway?

Well, yes. We might be being generous thinking that more than 10min thought went into it wink I think the marketing blurb talks about the the T350 and GT racing so I wonder if the idea was to give it a "techy" name instead of the mythological creatures so it sounde more racy? The T400, T440 etc. are theoretically primarily race cars. The average GT field: Porsche 911, BMW M3, Ferrari 360, all use numbers?!

I think the Tamora was originally to have more power than the T350. They should have just made their minds up: numbers or beasts.

And they should have made the T350 and a T350 convertible. And skipped the chocolate engine components. And, and, and...

I thought it as based on the T-car chassis and then BHP.

The T350 is a legacy of the race program that replaced the Tuscan Racers.

They originally called the replacement car the TuscanR but by the time the T350 model was on the board this had changed to T400 to represent Tuscan and the power output.

At the 2002 motor show both broke cover so the red T400 prototype road car and a silver T350.

By 2003 they realised that they needed two models of the T400 to race at Le Mans so invented the T440 and shortly after they decided to also supercharge it and called that project the T550. Again, all linked to HP.

However, it's pretty obvious that when the Sagaris appeared they thought 'bugger'. The Sag was also meant to be a racer but with the same engines what numbers could they use? So they went for the traditional PW Greek nomenclature. At the same time this triggered a change in the T550 name so that when they announced it publicly it was called the Typhon.

So in a way, in geological terms' the T350 is a legacy of an evolutionary dead end.

Of course, it may have just been named in homage to Thames Valley Rentals most popular Transit van. wink
