Warning code 16 water sensor

I have an intermittent fault code come up on my T350 'warning code 16 water sensor'
At the last service the temperature sender was replaced and I've replaced the plug to the sender.
When the code comes up the fans stay on
Any ideas?
Faulty sensor and/or connector for the one that reads off the ECU. Default is the fans will run if you disconnect the sensor so...... check it again as the ECU thinks its disconnected or registering a reading at a value that would normally trigger the fans.At the last service the temperature sender was replaced and I've replaced the plug to the sender.

I have checked the plug/connector on to the temp sender all seems ok when I disconnect it the fans came on, I took a little trip out today and all seemed ok we stopped a couple of times after 90 miles no warning, then after we stopped for 1 hour it came up again, I did notice that the fans didn't come on as the temp was low (60ish) so the ecu must not see it as open circuit.
The only other thing I have noticed since the new temp was fitted the fans come on earlier 80ish as opposed to 90ish before.

Dash temp display is different to the actual ecu temp (there are two sensors under the air box. Hook it up to the laptop and use the S6 software. See what temp is displayed when the fans start as that is correct readingI have checked the plug/connector on to the temp sender all seems ok when I disconnect it the fans came on, I took a little trip out today and all seemed ok we stopped a couple of times after 90 miles no warning, then after we stopped for 1 hour it came up again, I did notice that the fans didn't come on as the temp was low (60ish) so the ecu must not see it as open circuit.

Is this actually the case? I had a corroded sensor connection many years ago and the fans certainly did not come on - and there was nothing wrong with the fans.Shep
