strange sound when ignition on

Hi,

A "new" strange sound has started to haunt me. When I turn the ignition on it sounds like the fan bearings are bad but the sound continues when I turn the fan of. It sounds like it comes fron somewhere over the battery or just. Any ideas?

Heater flap motor running maybe? the dash pod also has a small fan in it that runs to keep things cool.

The heater blower motor is in the battery area....
