The Tamora has recently started having high speed vibration,it feels like it's coming from the left hand front side. I've checked all the links bushes etc,had the wheels balanced on all four corners and I've checked the tracking and geometry and it's all as it should be. I've checked all items such as the rear defusser as well as the full length ally flat floor and they are all fine and fixed securely.Engine mounts were replaced when the 4.3 was installed in July..My only conclusion is that one of the wheels is buckled.

Now a friend of mine has a Chim which is running 18" spiders the plan is to borrow the wheels and try them on the front of the Tamora...now what I need to know is are the Chim spiders all front wheel offsets or all rear offsets he can't remember I just wonder if any of you guys know....

Any info would be a great help or if you had a similar issue how you cured it !

Cheers

Chim never had spiders as standard, so they got a 5 stud conversion. Thus all offsets are the same, I believe. smile

Had a similar issue many moons ago - vibration felt between 60 and 70 mph. Had wheels balanced, aligned etc - turned out to be a bent alloy.

On my car the problem was a seized n/s front brake caliper. It felt exactly like a wheel balance problem. The faster you went the hotter it got and the more it vibrated. Excessive brake dust gives you a clue.

Our tuscan has the same problem and we have tried everything without any luck. The next thing to try is check the wheels, not sure why, but i was wondering if it could be one of the rears buckled. You would have thought the garage balancing the wheels last time would have noticed something, wouldn't you? But they didn't.
Anyway keep meaning to take it to the local wheel refurbishers and see what they say...

Hi Buz it could be a warped disc or more likely as you have said the wheel is buckled. I believe that the Spider wheels are marked inside the rims front or back as I had to fit 4 fronts on my Cerb when I upgraded the wheels a couple of years ago.

Had same problem. Try getting your wheel spun up on a balancer without the tyre and check it by eye that it runs true . Balancing with tyre on my bring the wheel within tyre fitters tolerances but if its bent chances are you will get some vibration at some speeds .

Could be a warped disc, obviously this would normally be a lot more obvious during braking but I have heard of discs causing high speed vibration?

Hi Don yeah i did know that and that's the upgrade we fitted.I just need to know which off set the upgrade for the Chim is. It's either all front or all rear offset wheels as u know the T cars have different offsets F&R

It's definitely not wrapped disks or bearings as I'd checked and all were within tolerances

I still think it's the wheel + I didn't get down to my mates as I was tied up this weekend but all been well I should be there this Sunday and then I'll report back.

I just thought I would bring a conclusion to this thread in letting you know that I did get to the bottom of this. As I initially deduced the vibration was coming from a bent wheel I had it to a local repairer. When He spun it up on the tyre machine it was wobbling like a Brazilian carnival belly dancer anyway he repaired it that morning (£40). From there I headed over to Elvington (I know a friend of a friend;) ) and had a couple of blasts up & down the main runway clocked 150mph and every thing is as it should be with no vibration....I'm a happy a happy camper now!coolclap

Always nice when someone takes the trouble to report back when help and advice has been offered.

When several suggestions are made regarding a problem we all want to know which one worked.

Funnily I had something similar on the rear of the Sag at about 80MPH - all sorts of things failed until I changed the rear tyres. They spun up OK but must have been producing some kind of harmonic vibration.

New tyres - problem virtually gone although a small vibration period at about 3200RPM, probably a soft engine mount after 125000 miles.

So gteat news - it's gone, gone, gone and the car's a good 'un again
