so, courtesy of zippee i installed my ACT stainless rear box this week.
Some challenges, as the red rose exhaust on my car was a larger bore than the box but after some fiddling its on.

it is however... sooo loud.

Shes decatted, rr bigger bore and now act rear canned with flared tips.

i was going to sell my stock rear box but im inclined to hang on to it now. cos i dont know if i can cope with the noise. its insane. i was watching gt3 cars on telly and when the camera was in the car i was thinking... yep.. sounds pretty much like mine in there..

dont get me wrong, outside it sounds unreal, overrun is nuts and the crackle and pop is madness, im never sure if its the full flame outs but some are so loud they just cant not be. dogs are barking, old people are having cardiacs and there is a general fist shaking look about the place when i arrive.... even on tickover... i managed a couple of bangs on a roundabout at about 10 mph just pulling up to the car in front.

weirdly though, seems to run smoother, less shunt at low speed, i can take my feet off the pedals and just cruise at 12 mph on idle with no stuttering or the usual sp6 roughness.

no question. just putting it out there. i had a straight thru cerb 4.5 a few years ago. i never thought id get louder. but...

Ditto, can't beat that combo, although Tony's combined with a 4.3 makes me cringe lol

Don't be soft, that what ear plugs are for tongue out. If you think the ACT system with decats is loud, try TVR Power/Racing Green end cans with decats.

The other advantage is you won't be able to hear SWIMBO nattering in your ear when you give it beans in future.

Seriously though, I think its louder in the T350 cars than the Tamora as I have an enclosed boot between my cans and the cabin, you don't have that on a T350.

If you want to to loose a bit of noise stick the cats back in. Like you mine has the big bore red rose down pipes and act cans, but the cats keep the volume down a bit...... But no flames with the cats :-(

Just a thought

Have to say I found it less "boomy" in the cabin with decats fitted than with the cats in with the jp backbox at motorway crusing speeds.

But when you do press the loud pedal you are certainly heard (and it's great!)

I love Pistonheads.
No where else would you find a group of respectable grown up men discussing how to get flames coming out of their exhaust pipes...

Now... Mine is a loud but acceptable (just) T350 with Racing Green cans and cats.
I don't want it any louder (I already put the standard box back on for track days) but I would love some flames...

If I put the standard box back on, but decat it, will I end up roughly where I am now on the noise front, plus a bit of colour?

One more thing... What is the official line from the Boys in Blue with regards flames coming out the back?

Standard box plus decats 'may' get flames but it does change the sound for the worse IMHO. Very raspy and not particularly pleasant.

Mark - hope you like the JP - it is a bit louder than standard but most of the noise is outside the car smile It's also nicely bedded in for you....

Don't know, I would suggest you just don't 'lift off' is the rozzers are behind you!

Would sports cats be a better option, rather than de-cats? I have now heard many TVR's with both sports back box boxes and de-cats - and, to me at least, it is just a very loud noise.

Drove it again today last time before she beds down for a few months. It was a little greasy and the big hit at 4k revs was coupled with the red change light so I kept it short shift. However. ..what a noise.
I love it. Ive decided. Who needs good hearing anyway...
What ?
I have got a lovely fleece too.
Colour coded piped and badged. Black and red to match formula red and black piped leather.
Reasonable too.

Hello mate. Around 250 from www.performancecarcovers.co.uk
Bespoke made for the vehicle.
U choose badge piping panel colours the lot. My 350 is full hide black piped in red so I just contrasted it. But if u got fancy panels inside they will match it up it seems.
Comes in a drawstring bag. Very cool.

That looks brill! Done a bit of nosing around and the price seems very competitive too. £200 more than their basic cover, but somehow seems justifiable. Might order one
