I agree and after a while you will be able to tell without looking at the oil temp if the car is warmed up or not... It's something you feel and hear. You will find that if you pull over in a lay by or services and stop the car... The temp rises fairly quickly to a more accurate level (not suggesting for a second that you let the car tick over long) however it certainly help you get a feel for a true oil temp.... Over time, as mentioned, you get a feel for it without stopping!... Enjoy :-)
