Throttle body refurb
Discussion
So I whipped off the bodies to attempt to cure a hesitation and spitting back, which has been a PITA. Bodies never seemed bad when feeling for play on the car - but this is misleading, as I found out.
With them removed and separated from their buddies, you can tell quite easily if they're fubar'd by holding each butterfly open and feeling for vertical play (there's always lateral play to stop them tightening up with hot). You won't feel much play when they're all coupled up, as this disguises and slack. They were seriously sh*gged and five of the spindles could be rattled in their bodies by a passing breeze. If I'd had a dial test gauge, I'd have measured to see how many thou's of play each had.
So I packed them off to Dom at TVR Power for a freshen up. And what a top job. He stripped, cleaned, machined and inserted bushes in all six bodies. Needless to say, the spindles are now a snug fit and I'm expecting the previous issues to have vanished. They're now back on the car and I'm hoping Santa might rock-up with a synchrometer, so I can at least get it running and balance the throttles before it heads off for a service and tune-up in Spring. I'll let you know how it runs.
I already had Power's thermal gaskets under the bodies, so hopefully this'll help it stay in tune longer than an X-Factor contestant

I was like you too
Then I took bits off, and hey presto I could put them back again and the car didn't blow up
I took photos and videos and talked my way through it, job done
I'm aiming to do the same over the winter
Take it slow, jobs a goodun
It's the future Steve and taking photos is the way and very sensible too.

Ant. do you mind me asking where you found the bearings from and the sizes or part numbers? I'm looking at doing this myself in the near future so it would be useful to get some bearings that are known to work.
Cheers,
Andy.
I bought these....Cheers,
Andy.

Excellent thanks I'll get them ordered.
I'm liking that wet blasted finish you have. Are you leaving them like that or applying a coating of some kind to prevent corrosion?
Leaving them like that Andy, there weren't too bad before , even after 10 years, and now it lives in a brand new man cave...I'm liking that wet blasted finish you have. Are you leaving them like that or applying a coating of some kind to prevent corrosion?
