Speakers with a little more base, which?
Discussion
OK, I have my Pioneer audio/sat nav upgrade installed (what a nightmare..)
I plugged in my USB 'mix tape' stick, very excited, however, I have 4 speakers in the car (2 at the rear and 2 on the doors) and there is zero base, and I mean no base at all (not good when you like stuff with base..)
What could I do to remedy this, what rear speakers would do the job these days?

Chris, I just have rear speakers but they needed an amp to drive proper bass. I went for separate mid base/base and tweeter from Focal. They are good but head unit on its own isn't man enough. Could be a 4 way amp could fix your problem?
Cheers Sid - if I bought this stuff, could you help me fit it - or just give me some pointers?YHM, BTW

Chris what type of speakers do you have in the back and what head unit ? I rung 6x9 ken woods in the back and alpine head unit 50watt RMS the bass is awesome to the point of if u put bass up to 8 you can feel it reverb through the seat on your chest especially with a bit of bob Marley I'm about to fit the door speakers once I've decided on in final speaker cover design I'll be running single 6" with alpine tweeters in the top of the door but I'll b putting in 900w amp in the boot out of the camper van that should make it hop!

I have this:Buzz

Does the above stock the amp and rear speakers you have?
Reggae doesn't really work too well without base..

This is the door speaker:

Hi Chris, I think you need new speakers. The rears look like the ones I had in from the factory and they aren't very good.
Hi Ed. I think you're right...Would these be better:
170's for the rear
http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/pioneer-tse1702is-1...
And 130's for the front:
http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/pioneer-tsa1323i-13...
I don't want it to sound all max Power Drum 'n' base, I just want at least a hint of base!

If you can, have a listen and see if they suit your taste. I'm am a bit of a HiFi geek and have built my own 3 way speakers for the house so I went for separates and drilled new holes for the tweeters and fitted bigger mid/base units plus a good amp so spent quite a bit in all. I think any that sound good to your ear will be ok. Edited to add; if it was me I would only upgrade the rears as your only going to get limited base from the fronts anyway so splash a bit more on the rears.Would these be better:

i have those in the rear of my tam. if you want base, id probably go bigger with an ampEdited by sidpinup on Wednesday 18th December 16:30
are the speakers fitted with the rear covered in carpet?
in my car, the carpet is tight against the magnet. its not touching the cone frame, but there is no airspace behind the speaker to permit air movement, which i would imagine cancels somewhat the speaker.
happy to hear advise from those that know!
should the carpet be removed from behind the speaker?

OK, what about a 2 channel amp:
http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/pioneer-gma3602-cha...
Plus the Pioneer rear 170mm speakers, that should be enough to 'pep' the base up, shouldn't it? (or would a 4 speaker amp be better?
I don't really want a sub woofer in the car, I bought one for my first Tam and when I realised how ridiculous it would have looked, I sent it back.
Amps are totally alien to me, though, how are they set up?
If you could link what you think would be a good set up, that would be great.
ETA - the sat nav had this annoying habit of turning my music off and informing me I was driving over the speed limit every time I crept over - managed to disable that with no problems.....

if you have tiny fronts, to some extent, an amp will have marginal effect on those . open top cars are difficult as the music disappears. and whilst putting big speakers in the rear is ok (as it is a decent flat area to use) it means you have the perception that the music is behind you, when you really want it surrounding you, with just infill in the back...
another option is multiple speakers situated around the car, modern cars often have 8 or 10 smaller speakers, which give a surrounding effect, but if you really want base, then i think it has to be a bigger speaker. and those may be better driven with amps.
you can get an 8 inch , or 6 by 9 in the ts range, which are about physically as large as i would consider ok in the back without looking too "gangsta"
try that, if you need to addf an amp later you can relatively easily, as all that wiring will be in the boot anyway...though looking at the amp you suggested, it would be easy to install..
vv easy to up spend as sopn as you start talking about ice....

Thanks for that, Steve. I may buy that small amp and the two Pioneer speakers, then. All I want is a little more base, I know that spending a fortune on ICE in a Tamora with a sports exhaust would be quite mad, as I said, I just want a little more 'oomph' from the speakers, so I can enjoy the music while cruising.another option is multiple speakers situated around the car, modern cars often have 8 or 10 smaller speakers, which give a surrounding effect, but if you really want base, then i think it has to be a bigger speaker. and those may be better driven with amps.

ETA - or what about this:
http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/kenwood-kscsw11-com...
Or this:
http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/pioneer-tswx710a-fl...
It could be placed either on the rear bulkhead or behind one of the seats - if I want more base, would that be a better solution?
ETA 2 - the clarity and loudness of the current speakers isn't the issue, it is just the lack of base.

Hi Steve, mine have carpet over the back and hard against the magnet but not touching the cone (that would sound bad) as long as a speaker cone has room to move it will drive air, it doesn't need a box to work in. Sub woofers use a box to produce a deeper sound and are tuned via the port but it's not essential. Bigger cones move more air so make better bass if driven cleanly by a good amp.in my car, the carpet is tight against the magnet. its not touching the cone frame, but there is no airspace behind the speaker to permit air movement, which i would imagine cancels somewhat the speaker.

Have bought a pair of these, following Sidpinup's advice:
http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/alpine-spr60-typer-...
I know they're no bigger, but I'd like to see what the difference is before spending any more - and the blurb does state "Impressively Powerful Bass"..
