my tam seats are in for a retrim

looking at them and other tam seats , there are a couple of different methods of manufacture and trimming used by tvr. maybe early and later cars...

on some the lower cushion is removable by pulling it off, whereas mine is definitely part of the seat and to remove it requires spanners and undoing webbing which holds the lower portion of the seat in place

i also have the impression that the earlier seat sits me lower in the car than a later seat, and some have replicated this by making the later seat bases slimmer (more like the thickness of early seats.

i guess I'm curious if anyone who has had both has noticed any real difference in comfort, support numbness in the seat constructions TVR used, or suggests any other changes or mods i should consider whilst it is apart?

Heated seats on a convertible is good but don't think of much value otherwise, caveat if you have back issues tongue out

I've the Tuscan seats in mine with removable pads. Seats recently been retrimmed by Dave (photos to follow) and taking the pad out and sitting in the hole doesn't cause any issues. Le Mans the longest trip and I get out the car as if it's any other smile

its a slippery slope

i only need a small repair to the seat backs, (actually want not need)....as the trim between the leather and seat back on mine is a little messy

If i do that, it would be a better match to replace the whole surround to the seat backs rather than a repair panel. (and repaint them colour coded as the existing colour coding is a little scratched)
i also want to fit heated seat pads to base and back so i "could" replace those, (they look a little saggy) but can't match the colour so they need to be same as the surround leather which i can match....

IF i do that, might as well retrim the whole seat
IF I do that, (have 2 hides) might as well do the tunnel cover as I'm fitting an ali handbrake surround so it will need some work (probably/maybe...justification mode on here)
IF I'm doing the seats and tunnel, thats half the car.....might as well get the rest done...then i can choose any colour i like

all of a sudden a small repair can run away.

i really have to decide if i like a single colour seat enough to leave it there though.....decisions decisions....

Quality smile I see the reasoning though, very logical tongue out You only live once smile

Your story seems familiar :P

Mine started out as a repair to the vinyl on the seat, which had a split on the seam. Then I thought, mmmmm let's go Alcantara and carbon leather and have both seats done, which matches the other Alcantara I have and the carbon leather. Luckily the tunnel and dash are deep black vinyl/leather. Over time, I will convert it, but only when my window needs replacing smile It looks fantastic right now.

I then got Dave to redo the floor mats...then I thought, i might as well get new alcantara to go with the carbon leather in the door cards, so it was the same type as the seats and dark black colour...No more interior, stop it!

I then bought a Momo Steering wheel, as I liked Alex's and Lasersag's plus a friends T350 has it. Then a mate came round and suggested it was retrimmed top and bottom in black alcantara and orange stiching... FOR GOD SAKE STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to make a support group on Facebook, if anyone wants to join :/

There was a lovely black Tuscan in the paintshop next door, which looked amazing, great black and purple interior, the engine was immaculate too. Whoever owns that, it's a beast!

thing is.....i don't need a retrim. it was done in leather 4 years ago by a previous owner, and looks fine...the colours good but not quite what i would choose if i was starting from scratch, but its fine

this year its had
new engine
new gearbox
new ecu
nitrons
new diff
new exhaust

so i really ought focus on getting all that sorted properly and run in before i commence anything else.....shouldnt i ??

then i think about the "what if" and i very quickly get to a full retrim.....

but i really should just stick with getting the seats done in grey, which will match the grey/blue, so need to being out the colour in those with stitching i think, i don't want grey alcantara as its light so will get grubby. i don't want to use a dark blue alcantara as i have dark blue leather, blue carpets, blue headlining, and another blue maybe just too much.

so need to think about what i can do with the seat.

I know a lot of chaps opt for diamond quilting, but its not my cup of tea....

this is about the only shot i have....

plus this

Dave already repaired/replaced the floor mats so they look ok now, open to ideas.........was thinking of maybe perforated leather in the base and back, perhaps horizontal tramline stitching, maybe tvr logo in the upper part of the back of the seat and stitch detail below that.

open to ideas...

Originally, I was going to do the sides and not the top and bottom, but that was problematic, so ended up top and bottom instead.

Yeah, it was yours that made me think of doing it like that. If the stitching was already orange, no issues, but it's silver which looks great with the photo above smile, but not with my orange stitching. So orange stitching it is. Just took my steering wheel off and luckily my boss has already been drilled smile My buttons behind the wheel are on a metal plate, so I need to drill that and I should be good to go, then off to Dave's and it's done smile Final upgrade of the year! Yes, it's January smile

you will find as i did that you can see the back of the switches through the spokes with the momo. Dave will put leather on those to cover if you ask him....
