I had my tamora services and mot'ed by topcat and it went though with no advisories ( :-) ), apart from noting a slight bulge in the front tyre side wall. The car has goodyears alround which seem to be a good tyre, my problem is I want to replace the front tyre but no one seems to be able to get a 225 35 18 Goodyear.

I have 3 choices

1. replace the front pair but with what?
2. Replace the whole set, ( I'm a bit poor after having it serviced !!!!)
3. Put on the set of 16" spiders that I have and see how they good.

What are people's thoughts on this?...

I had the same issue recently and went up a size to 225 40 18, loads of choice available then.

I finally found some Goodyears @ http://www.tyreleader.co.uk. Still a few left it seems.

If you want to keep to factory size, other options are to downgrade to W spec (no practical difference but suggest telling your insurance company) or change makes.

I have Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas 225/40/18 front 245/40/18 rear.
Fronts are £105 each fitted, Rears are £131. From Tyremen.
No rubbing, probably something to do with my ride height is set sensibly at ~110mm, which is about what a new Lotus Elise is at, iirc most Tam's are set at a silly 80mm.
The tires have transformed the car, no tramlining, no harshness on sharp bumps, more predictable/easier to drive on B roads. Very impressed. When I was down at Track V Road I was told about one of their costumers Tuscan handling was transformed.
Although there aren't a great deal of testimonials out there, what there is has been positive.

The car currently runs 225 35 18 at the front and 255 35 18 at the rear, so if I put 225 40's on the front it won't effect anything much??

I run 225/40 at the front too. It's a slightly higher profile so you shouldn't have any problems unless you are running a low ride height. I don't have any issues with mine.
