The handbrake handle is fixed with a little grub screw. It is slightly hidden under the gaiter. If your handbrake gaiter is not glued to the centre tunnel you can remove it after removing the handbrake handle, if needed.

To remove the gear knob you have to loosen the counter nut under the knob, then you can just turn the knob until it comes off. This might be quite difficult, when the counter nut is tightly fitted and/or the knob was glued to the gear stick with bolt adhesive.
The gaiter is glued to the centre console, so you probably have to remove that in the process.

Roberto has covered the alloy handbrake surround & gear knob removal but there is an art to get the tunnel out without throwing too many f'cks into it.

To remove the tunnel, you need to pull the handbrake on hard to give you a good steep angle on the handbrake. There may be a wing-nut on the front end by the ashtray, you can feel this blind and undo it no bother. Take the targa panel out to make it easier as the steep angle needed to remove the tunnel is likely to foul the roof.

Shep,

I almost forgot about that PITA job. It's even more tricky without targa panels. 8-)
