Anyone else have this problem?

ON no 2 cylinder the plug lead, which clicks into place very nicely when cold with rubber lip seating properly on the top of the cam cover, when hot and after a bit of use, this could be a few hundred miles, or 50 miles, lead rises up and disconnects itself from the spark plug.
pretty sure its down to the rubber at the bottom of the plug extender expanding with heat pushing the lead off/upwards, and cannot see why its only ever happening on number 2 cylinder.I have fitted some rubber to the underside of the plug cover plate and I am now tempted to remove the bottom rubber on the ht lead completely to stop this happening, but don't want to chance another problem with potential miss fire if it gets water down in the plug recess for some reason, or, arcing out.

sensible thoughts appreciated.

Hi Clive,

If you have a cam cover gasket fitted rather than RTV, this can push them off, but most of them, unless the No.2 aluminium ring has been bonded in too high?

Clive,

Have had a plug lead pop up but lubricated with a smidge of silicone sealant on the outside, crimped the terminal a bit more and pushed on. They fell a bit springy if you don't lube so I thought was just binding and pushing back. Not happened since. I have a gasket fitted and yes a couple of mm higher so can cause problems.

New Magnecore HT leads are notorious for popping off, as was reiterated to me by a TVR specialist only last Friday!

hopefully found a solution to the problem, the leads are the 3rd set I have tried over the last 3 years, the latest coming from TVR Power, the previous set from RG practically fell to bit, very poorly made, have tried Vaseline, etc etc.

anyways, I`ve found that no2 lead does not have a small breather hole in the top of the rubber cap, all of the others do, so have drilled a hole in the rubber, apparently the air expands with heat and pushed the lead up, disconnecting from the spark plug, this hopefully will be the cure to the annoying problem.
