Tyre sizes SP12's
Discussion
Ime posting this for my Daughter Aimy who as just bought a Tamora fitted with SP12's (No doubt she will get herself on here soon)The current tyre sizes are 225/35/18 Front and 255/35/18 although the Toyos are in good condition they are dated 2006 so I would guess that they wont be doing the handling/road holding any favours...
So the question: we are thinking of going 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 Kumho KU36 due to the lack of choice with decent rubber, we have the KU36's on some of the other cars here and they are really good, if im right? the 40 profile will lift the front end up 11mm aprox with the same arch gap loss, surly this is going to throw the geo/rake out? The Tam is riding on standard shocks.
Your thoughts appreciated.....

There is quite a lot of previous discussion on this topic!
The sizes you have are exactly what I have on my SP12s. I (personally) would be wary of moving to 225/40 on the front as there may be rubbing issues. But many people do run these (and it gives a far wider choice of tyre). TVRs are hand built cars are so some will get rubbing and others not! Re increasing the size of the rears, the 255/35 are quite a bit wider than specified already but other than that no comment.
I am not entirely happy with the rear end at present - there seems to be some sort of bump steer. I don't know if this is due to the wider / lower profile tyres or not. It's in for a service in the next couple of weeks so will find out if this is a geo issue.
When I change tyres I am tempted to return to the factory spec 225/35 and 235/40. The Toyo T1 Sport seem available in these sizes so was going to give them a go.

265 r1r fitted on my sp12. they will foul the arches a little, increasing the ride height helps, but solved ultimately with trimming the inner arches a little inside. its not visible, but with my 265 rears was a definite requirement the kuhmo may be different on the shoulder, but id anticipate they will foul or need trimming. So the question: we are thinking of going 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 Kumho KU36 due to the lack of choice with decent rubber, we have the KU36's on some of the other cars here and they are really good, if im right? the 40 profile will lift the front end up 11mm aprox with the same arch gap loss, surly this is going to throw the geo/rake out? the fronts are fine with 40 profile , they may just scuff the bcd of the headlamp panel, but refibreglass that on the inside and it'll be fine, no need to adjust anything suspension wise , but raising the rears a little to allow for clearance helps.
