Sagaris Air con issues
Discussion
Hello All,
My blue light still comes on so I think my air con is still working although you would not know it since the difference in temperature between air con off and air con on is now negligible.
Think it is therefore time to have it re-gassed.
If I take the car to somewhere like Halfords would they know how to do it or are there TVRism's that they would not know about? Equally, how difficult is it to do yourself?
Any help appreciated as always
Thanks a lot
Antony

Don't take too much notice of the blue light, it comes on in cars without AirCon too.
How long ago was the car re-gassed? If less than a couple of years ago almost certainly you'll have a small leak somewhere. I would either take to a AirCon expert that has seen a TVR before or a TVR specialist both who will/should be able to find any leaks.

On the way down to Le Mans last week it was working 'ok', you could tell the difference between in and off but on the way back you couldn't
Cheers

If you turn on AC, can you hear the clutch of the compressor engaging?
If no you should have a look at the status screen in the Dash Pod. Maybe the tribary switch is faulty.
If yes, it could be missing gas in the system.
No, I could not hear the compressor engaging. If no you should have a look at the status screen in the Dash Pod. Maybe the tribary switch is faulty.

Can you recall,On the pod, which screen should I be looking at and what the reading should it say if works and what would it say if not?!
Thanks a lot, much appreciated

So for the POD go to the Factory setting. That lists whether AirCon is fitted or not.
The compressor wont cut in if there is no gas. You can't miss the click. You can also check by looking at the very front piece of the compressor, it should rotate when engaged. The compressor itself is in front of the alternator, on the side of the engine facing downward, non exhaust manifold side (though not sure if you can see it on the Sag, you can on the Cerb)
Most likely out of gas. I would have it pressure tested which will show a leak and regassed with leak dye (which will show where a leak is). Any aircon place will do this, even Halfords. The system is very normal and both the low and high pressure connections are obvious and easy to get to even through the service bonnet (on the left as you look in, small connectors in the middle of metal pipes with plastic dust caps. The two are not together, quite far apart)
Maybe a leak from the condensor which is very exposed to flying stones. Once the dye is in you can check for leaks with a UV torch. The condensor itself is slung underneath the radiator and you can see it from the nearside front looking through the air intakes between the bumper and front spoiler
If its lasted 10 years without been regassed probably will OK with just a regas and will be fine for another 10 years

Might have sold you a dummy on the compressor, looks to be a completely different design to one on the Cerb
No worries, comments much appreciated. I think I've decided there's probably a leak as it was fine one day and not the next so I'll live without air con for the rest of the summer and let Neil Garner look at it when the next service is due.
Thanks again for the comments

It's the unnamed page 5 in the Dash Pod Menu. I don't have my Sagaris anymore, but if I remember correct there are three status displays in the lower line:Can you recall,On the pod, which screen should I be looking at and what the reading should it say if works and what would it say if not?!
Thanks a lot, much appreciated
One is CL, that's the clutch status. If it's on and the clutch isn't engaging then you have an electric fault in this part.
Then PR, this is the pressure sensor in the trinary switch.
Then IC, this is the icing sensor, which is located in the passenger footwell und looking like a thermostat from a fridge.
Maybe someone with a working A/C can give us his value so we can compare them to yours.
