Getting one fitted next week - do I need to inform the insurance company? How much extra does it cost on insurance? Thanks...

Hi jasperj.

I asked my insurance company about this as I am having the TVR Power exhaust fitted to mine next week and they said if it does not increase power just makes more noise then the premium stays the same,if power is increased then there would be a bit extra to pay. But you do need to tell them.
Pete.

Ooo you've got to be careful here: I bet the sports exhaust does increase the bhp at least by a couple of points - they'll stick another couple of hundred quid on the insurance for this.

Perhaps it's best to let sleeping dogs lie - would a claims inspector know the difference between eg standard, big bore and supersports?

Not that I would advocate breaking the law, you understand.......

With Privilege I decided honesty best policy, and told them about my replacement 4 litre engine, which may arguably add about 10bhp, so they stung me for an extra £100

Asked them would they shaft me for another £100 if I added a sports exhaust, they said no, the £100 paid on the engine would cover me for up to 10% extra power, so exhaust comes within that. Feel I now need to do some mods to get the full extra 10% power I'm now insured for

If the insurance company is looking at a £10M damages claim from a crippled breadwinner with 2 small children, they will dismantle your car down to its component parts and inspect every single one under a microscope in order to find a reason not to pay out. Do you want to spend the rest of your life paying for someone elses nursing home care?

Mannings just required a letter from supplying dealer stating type of exhaust being fitted which was jp and highly recommended. No charge for this. Dont risk doing any mods without telling the insurance company!

Why? to try and reduce the premium because of the reduced performance

Well thanks to Direct Line I'm £63 lighter... bottom line was any exhaust modification was £63, even if it gives no extra BHP. But having paid £63, I can now increase the BHP by an extra 10% and not pay any more...and ideas?

I have to say I love the new sound - spent most of the weekend listening to it , I should buy shares in BP..

I have now put more miles on it in 6months than the previous owner did in 2years... anyone know how you stop yourself driving the Tamora.. apart from getting my wife to hide the keys from me...
