Hello all!

My car has suddenly started overheating badly - I'm contacting the dealer later when thier open, but I thought I'd see what advice you load of knowledgable people might have!!

Symptoms:
It had a service just over a week ago, and cooling system was bled as believed to have had air lock in (spurious Water Temp sensor readings)

Did a long motorway drive and it was fine (assume "high speed" air cooling helped!)

Problem appeared when I started to drive it to work on Tues - 25 mile run from cold, ambient temp 16 deg, pootling at about 50mph, and by the time I got there, water was high 90's - Idled for a few minutes and it climbed above 100. Last night exactly same thing happened, but when I idled in the driveway for a couple of minutes it quickly shot up to 111 deg and spat the coolant all over the driveway...

I can only assume that its due to another airlock in the system, but I find this very strange as it was bled only a week ago.. any ideas?

Also, any "cures" will have to be done myself, as I'm back in Norway now, so hints and tips on bleeding it myself etc would be appreciated!!

Many thanks,

Matthew

When ours did something similar it was a tiny leak in the heat exchanger. They found it by doing a pressure test.

Are the fans turning on? Could be as simple as a fuse if so.

Same thing happened to me.

One of my fans was not kicking in due to a faulty temp sensor.

They also put in a 2nd coolant expansion tank and it has been fine since (Apparently this was a common problem with the early T350's, so Dealer should do for free as they can claim cost from TVR).

Thanks Guys.

Fans seem to be working ok. Been in touch with the garage & they believe its an air-lock in the system again. Dont understand why this is as it was only bled last week, but it looks like I've got a few hours of fun tonight having another go myself!

will let you know how I get on...

I had this problem with mine. Had to keep topping up the water with about a cup full every few weeks and had the same airlock problem, again and again. Temp sensor cahnged a couple of times, pressure test etc but all to no avail.

Eventually after 9 months of messing about the radiator sprung a leak big enough to notice so I had the rad changed. Previously the leak had been so small that the water was vapourising as it hit the engine and so there was never a puddle under the car.

Seems it was a common fault and all the cars from my dealer had the same fault and had their rads changed...FREE! By the time I found the leak mine was 3 months out of 1st years warranty and even after many complaints the factory would only pay for the part, leaving me with a few hundred quid to pay for the labour. (ta!)

Get to the dealer, make them change the rad ASAP.....FREE!!!

Hmm - good info, thankyou!
I'll see how it is after I bleed the system tonight, but unfortunately I'm over here (Norway) for another few months, so it will probably be Oct/Nov before I can get any warranty work done!!

No real tips on bleeding the cooling system. I just used this method: top it up, tickover and rev it until hot, let it cool down, top it up and repeat until there was nothing to top up. Then take it for a drive and start all over again.

I guess you'll just have to check the water level very day before you use it, but at least that should keep the airlocks at bay.

Might be an idea to get some Bars rad sealer
and keep it in the car in case it fails big time and leaves you stranded.

There is a bleed screw on top L/H side if the radiator, I don't know how easy it is to get to on a T350 on a Tuscan you have to remove the main bonnet.

Thanks - Speaking to the garage, theres an allen key bleed screw on both the feed and return to the radiator - I've been told to use the one on the passenger side....

Ok, just a quick update - had a successfull "bleeding" operation on Fri night, and the cooling system is now working better than ever! Coolant running in the very low 90's, and Oil seems to get up to temperature very slightly quicker so I'm very pleased - fingers crossed it stays that way!
