Since ive had the 12k service done (car has done 8k) ive noticed as the engine gets to about 6500 7000 rpm that there's a tinny noise, can only think its pinking.
Any thoughts appreciated and what should i do now?

BTW when i bought the car it used to pink at high revs until i used optimax and that sorted the problem, but still running optimax and the noise has returned

My Griff was pinking last summer, I added some cat friendly octane booster in with a full tank now again, and that seemed to cure it. You can get some bad batches of optimax, it 'goes off' more quickly that other fuels.

Mine pinked for the first time on Thursday. I was running BP 95 unleaded whereas I normally always run super/Optimax. Made the tinny noise you describe. Now running on Optimax again and nice and quiet after a good hard acceleration run a few times yesterday/today.

Try another tank of Optimax - might just be a one off. Otherwise maybe the timing has slipped out a bit (does it work like that on this engine?).

I had the exact same symptom on my Tamora, except it was happening before a major service and then after the service it was gone - almost certainly because of the tappet adjustment.

I suggest you ask the dealer to re-check the tappets.

My tamora has always done that between 6500 and 7000 rpm I dont know what it is but I thinks is fairly common.

Mine used to do this quite badly. A combination of a) A new ECU chip (under warranty), and b) Using only optimax (or whatever the BP equivalent is, i forget its name) solved the problem.

I may have the same problem, at 5000 - 6000 revs under load it sounds like someone has thrown a load of marbles into the exhaust.

It has only recently started to happen but if it is pinking I was wondering what damage it may be doing within the engine at these high revs?.

Hi shifty - great description of the noise! I had exactly the same, was solved as in post above. Dealer didn't seem to think it was doing any harm, as i recall.

Well... mine sounded exactly like this too, and it was the 24k service that fixed it, presumably the tappet adjustment. It was on Optimax the whole time.

The exhaust header pipes expand due to the heat and sometimes touch which causes a tinkling noise under full load/high rpm. Also described as pinking.

My Tuscan 'pinked' whatever fuel I used in it.
It turned out to be the throttle bodies out of adjustment, and was only cured after the throttle bodies were 'rebushed' or something at Blackpool.

The pinking was initially lessened by the staff at TMS adjusting them (TBs) as best they could, but in the end they just couldn't get them right and had to send them back to TVR.

Was a little concerned re the "marbles in the exhaust" at 5000 - 6000 revs.

Was going to start putting Optimax in to see if this would clear it, but nearest Optimax garage is some 15 miles away.

Went to Donnington today to see the touring cars, had a real blast down the local motorway and the marbles has disappered.
