Revs dropping slowly

Has anyone had a situation where the revs fall really slowly when changing gear (or even just blipping the throttle)? The engine was nice and warm, but wasn't being thrashed (that much).
The symptoms were kind of similar to riding the clutch I suppose (I wasn't though!).

Is this something I should worry about, or is it a 'they all do that sir'?

Had the same problem with my Chim and cured it by cleaning the vacuum advance pipe. peter
