The problem will be water biggrin
Mine often fails in very wet conditions and starts to work again when dry.
It must be the sensor but I cannot find out why. Sprayed WD40 in the general area and that seems to have improved the situation.

Water ingress or dirt on the speedo sensor might just need re-gapping. I assume the digital speedo works, it's just the analogue one that has failed

If the digital speedo still works then it is not the sensor.
My analogue speedo goes haywire every so often. I tried to get it repaired 3 times so far and it never lasts, so I've given up now. It works faultlessly for a few months then plays silly beggars a few times then starts working again.
I only ever look at the digital speedo anyway - perhaps the analogue one feels unloved.
