Taking my son back to Redditch this morning, I genuinely wondered if it's worth having the Tam, 99% of the journey I don't think I went any higher than 2nd gear due to numpty after numpty in front of me travelling at 'speeds' between 20-40 mph on the lovely twisties,( overtaking would be suicidal!) countless non descript Pacific rim made cars, old Rovers and Nissan Micras ( especially the Micra that pulled out of a junction directly in front of me, and then braked, directly in front of me, for no logical reason!! ) were, it felt like, placed there to make my life hell, braking on straight bits of roads for no reason, even a couple of brand new Focus's, which have ESP, traction control, ABS, all went round even the slightest of bends as if they had a basket of eggs on their bonnet!!!!!!(these idiots who shouldn’t really have licenses) At that point, I did momentarily think to myself that I may as well ditch the Tam, it's not worth the ever increasing frustration of driving on the UK roads, but then,,,,,,, at some point, the last numpty turned off in the local garden shop, and the road was mine, all mine!!! , so the twisties became fun, going around them at above average speeds, little flick of the tail when straightening up, it was heaven,,,,, so, yes, it is worth it, if only for that mere 1% of time where you can genuinely have fun

Oh yes, it seems the law now for all cars to slow to 35 when passing speed camera in a 50 zone!!!!!!

My only solution is to take your sportscar out of the UK as often as possible. It's the only way I keep my sanity.

Like Daz says, Chris, get onto the continent! May I respectfully suggest you get yourself a booking on Eurohoon? Come and have some real fun in Europe, and enjoy every ounce of the performance your car is capable of, plus have a great time with some brilliant people!

Go on, you know you want to!

Eurohoon sounds fab! when is it? Trouble being finding someone to have kids, but I do feel I NEED to have an undiluted 'blast' in the Tam, the UK is getting increasingly worse for us lovers of sportscars, I fear the lefts are winning and we will be taxed out of our cars soon

I agree Chris about driving in the UK, very frustrating, there's always some tutting killjoy right on your favourite set of corners.

But lets look at it from another angle. It's incredibly cool that we can still legally buy such unnecesarily fast cars. All tvrs crack the ton in under 10 seconds. That's comical for a country with a 70 mph speed limit.

It will be all to easy to fit every new car with gps equipment that will grass up the owner every time he goes over the limit. There will never be a convincing case for allowing people to buy unrestricted 170 mph cars for the road. Even in Germany Merc's and BMW's are restricted to 155 already.

So maybe our grand children will be amazed about the wild old days when all this sort of stuff was allowed on public roads, so I say enjoy it while it lasts. I suspect the fun will be over during our lifetimes!

It's the same with bikes. If one lefty MP of any significance actually rode one it wouild all be over very soon. The latest crop of superbikes are cracking 100mph in well under 6 seconds, near 140 in ten seconds and are available to anyone with 8 grand in their pocket new or 4 or 5 used. I'm amazed it's allowed at all! Long may it last!

I fear you're right , even had a biker in front of me (he couldn't even overtake!), we both shook our heads, so obviously he was as bemused as me regarding the drivers in front of us (I use the word 'drivers' in its loosest possible sense!). We know how to drive sensibly because of the power, the absolute moronic majority don't know how to drive, and that's the problem, we are the minority (cars and bikers alike), and that's why when our kids are grown up, what we enjoyed so much will be a thing of the past.
I think if drivers were given a road awareness aptitude test, coupled with an IQ test before being let loose on our roads, we all would be a lot happier, and safer!

What really infuriates though, is if I had hit the old couple in the Micra who pulled out in front of me, without looking, and then broke for no apparant reason, I can just see the headlines now, ' CARELESS YOB IN POWERFUL SPORTS CAR WIPES OUT GENTLE OLD COUPLE, THE CAUSES OF THE ACCIDENT ARE BEING DETERMINED, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE EXCESS SPEED CAUSED THE CRASH'!!!! Truth is, if I hadn't have been on the ball, they would have been wiped out, but it would have been my fault of cause!

It would as well! The truth is many an accident has also been avoided by cars with excellent brakes and agility, such as you find in really powerful cars.

I know I went over the brow of a hill in my Caterham to see a dawdler heading towards me on my side of the road. They were old spankers looking at a horse or something in the new forest. If I wasn't in such a responsive car I'd have hit them head on. Luckily I was able to drive round them but I didn't even have time to hit the brakes!

As with bikes, there's many a near miss that would have been a nasty crash in a car. But hey, who wants to know?

The other thing that gets on my nerves is that a clapped out rust bucket or eejit in a caravan at 60 can be ten times more dangerous than a well maintained, well designed performance car at 100. I bet the braking distances are much shorter for one!

The best time to enjoy our roads is at first light on a Sunday morning. Lay off the booze on Saturday night, set the alarm for 5 am, head off to the countryside and have the time of your life. You will be OK untill 8am when the paper shops open. Go for it.

Just got back yesterdazy from a weekend in Copenhagen , i live in Cologne Germany and its about 780km each way .

Traffic going was chaos until i passed Oberhausen after that it was great fun .

Coming back on Sunday fairly heavy traffic , but still we got long stretchs where we could hold 160/180kph generally very good lane manners 6 1/2 hours on the way back even with the traffic

What i am wondering is , is it worth having an Audi A8 when at 180kph you have a Kia Pride or some such sitting on your tail and generally chasing you out of the out side lane (note to self must try harder)
Dont you just love Ze Germans

Most cars do 160kph these days, even 180. But it's how you get there that matters. Ever have a silly grin on your face after accelerating to 160kph in a Kia Pride? Didn't think so.

Marki, sounds like your limiter is set 70km too low.

Drop the car into the garage and tell them to rip it off.

Motorways are boring anyway, in the UK, it's license suicide to go too mad, so letting cars overtake on the M5 is not an issue, the real issue is constantly being stuck behind cars going at 20-40 (tops!) on great roads, most of them I could comfortably do 50/60 mph in the 1.2 Clio with it's custard suspension!
I never have any intention of 'bullying' other drivers, or want to go at suicidal paces, just want enough pace to have a little fun, mainly within the speed limit, but we can't even do that!
