Front and rear wheels. I know they are different sizes, but will front fit back, and vice versa?

I ask, because I've just picked my wheels up from a tyre-off refurb (bloody good job) and the 225's have been fitted to the wheels marked 'rear', whilst the 255's are on those marked 'front'.

I'm just double checking that it couldn't have been like that before they did the refurb....

This was answered on FBook but to close this off.

The wheels are marked either Front or Rear for a reason. They have different offsets. Sounds like the refurbishers need to swap some tyres around.

Yes it has kind of been answered in FB, and yes the tyres do need to be swapped. But the latter was not the question.

And obviously I know that the offsets are different, hence being marked front and rear.

BUT different offset doesn't necessarily mean that the wheels won't fit - just that they MAY not fit, and will not fit as intended.

I asked as I'm trying to do a numpty root-cause-analysis. I.e. no point in accusing the refurb guys if the tyre fitters might have done it.

As I have non-standard tyre sizes, and the arches have been shaved a tad, it's difficult to know - unless the rear hub pokes out the centre cap if i fit a front wheel. Which is an exercise i can't be bothered to do...

Square wheels will 'fit' a car. Doesn't mean it is a sensible thing to do or an improvement over the factory design.

If you dropped the wheels off to be refurbed with tyres attached then it is for the refurbers to correct the mistake irregardless of whether they subbed it out or not.

That is really neither the point, nor helpful to anyone, nor even a good analogy. If they knew they were different front to back, yes, they should have done something. If I assumed they knew, but hadn't checked, it is my fault.

And if they matched tyre to wheel, then as far as they are concerned there is no fault to rectify.

If they didn't check, then they will change without question.

But if they didn't do it, then I've been driving very happily with the wheels the wrong way round. And that would be good to know, wouldn't it?

When i tried to fit my "fronts" to the rear of the car it popped the center badge out so i think you can't have had them on wrong.

Cheers. That's what I have gleaned from the FB posting too, and good to know where the problem arose.

I have done this in the past to give more wheel to wishbone clearance for a better turning circle .If you then put a spacer between the rear upright and bearing pack you can put the rear wheel back to it`s original position but you will also have to space the caliper.
