Bizarre Tamora Gaiter Inflation
Discussion
This is weird.
Tamora in for its first MOT today. Passed fine.
However, driving home enthusiastically on the M56, the leather gaiter around the gear stick inflates to ridiculous proportions when the speedo approaches 3 figures.
This has never happened before and it made changing gear at high speed a strange, putting-hand-in-a-balloon, type experience!
Anyone any idea at all?

Thank goodness it's not affecting your underpants!
Under the gaiter is a large hole for the gear lever, and there is indeed a rubber gaiter, which has probably come unstuck as it is open to the elements. The leather gaiter must be very tight to the gearstick to keep the air pressure in!
Take the central console off - take the ashtray out, feel in the hole for a wing nut, unscrew that and lift the front end, then slide backwards to release the long metal prong which holds the back end down.
Swivel it around on the gear lever, and you'll see the black rubber gaiter. Use silicone sealant plus a few screws and washers to refix the rubber thingy, and hopefully that should cure it.

Thanks Nubbin for the in-depth instructions - unfortunately the thought of taking the TVR to pieces brings me out in a cold sweat - I'm sure I wouldn't be able to put it back together again! Its going back in on Friday week to have a stone-damaged radiator replaced. I'll ask them to refix the rubber thingy then.
Hopefully then she'll be ready for Le Mans...
I learnt about this with my first Tamora - the factory had managed to cut the gear lever so that the retaining screw didn't, err, retain it - so when I pulled back on the gear lever it came free of the gear selector on the gear box! Very handy in town traffic!
The procedure is very simple and won't cause any problems - but it's a lot easier to let the dealer do it!
