A month in the life of a Sagaris
Discussion
Hello.. anyone thinking of copying the great idea which Lady Topaz has set in motion on the Tuscan II. There must be a few Sagaris owners now with nearly a month under their belt. I for one would be interested in their thoughts, especially if it someone that has moved from a Tamora/T350 :D. Would be good to hear their thoughts, feelings, issues, challenges of handling, day2day use, amount of attention, overall quality etc. Would be good to know how they find it vs their old TVR, why they made the change, glad they did etc. Just really their general thoughts and views.. if that makes sense.. It would be appreciated.... thanks.
I agree, would be interested to see what they are like after a month - and see what kind of problems are occuring (there must be some, it's TVR we're talking about - but it all adds character to the car
).
Would be quite interested in the same thing for a T400R (Was there not one sold to someone on PistonHeads?)
Dave.

My car has been far from fault free but a very exciting thing to have at my beck and call.
Certainly the mutterings about quality being hugely improved are premature. I'm told the new tuscan is much improved however. But the Sagaris being a new car, I guess you can expect a few more teething problems. Certain things could be improved.
Certain things have improved, most notably the new speedo sender that makes the needle much steadier than the t350. The steering is lighter and less darty. You don't need two hands on the wheel all the time and it doesn't hunt cambers. It also feels rock solid at speed and makes light work of high speed cruising. The wobbly bonnet is the only fly in the ointment for motorway work. My bonnet catch actually came undone and stupidly tvr don't supply owners with the right tools. Luckily a bit of improvisation with a 5 quid tool box at a service station has sorted it out. No problems since. Maybe the mechanic forgot to do it up properly.
Personally I could do with more support in the seats. Lamonta inserts provides this over the slipperly leather but to me looks and feels less nice. The support issue is compounded by the outrageous grip of the chassis to be fair. The cabin interior is very well finished. The leather and the stitching is first class but any better than a t350? Probably not to be fair. TVR don't get enough credit for their cool, handcrafted interiors with bespoke aluminium switch gear. Far ahead of Lotus's parts bin and Porsche's very mass produced and plasticy interiors imo. Flies in the ointment? Only a buzzing gearknob which is easily fixed with a bit of fiddling. The seats, now mounted level, do expose a slightly off centre driving position but again I've experienced far worse. Otherwise not a squeak or rattle anywhere - very impressive imo.
As is the gearchange, pedals and brakes - all things TVR do very well. Drive a Lotus Esprit, as much as I love them, and you'll appreciate what TVR have achieved. Again, no better than a t350 however.
Performance? Well I've only just tickled the belly of the beast. I haven't yet floored it or gone over 5000 revs but it's starting to feel very quick already, picking up after 4000 on a light throttle and growling with more menace. Having driven a demo car properly I know what the car can do and it's definitely more than the t350 in a straight line. It gets going at 4000 revs as opposed to 5000 and there's more power everywhere. Fabulous engine and a huge part of why I bought the car. The sound is great and only enhanced by the side exit exhausts, really bouncing off tunnels and walls. It also pops and crackles like a goodun on the over run. I'd love to hear one go by as a pedestrian. Personally I love the S6's sound and this is the best one I've yet tried.
My quality issues surround the outside of the car. My headlight lense covered weren't fitted properly and have since been re-beaded under warranty. Unfortuately this required a trip to the paint shop. Not very good but all fixed now. The rubber seals around the engine covers could be more neatly done. It's not very even and as mentioned the whole bonnet wobbles around a lot, something my t350 never did. I'm not sure I fancy trying the top speed unless it all calms down at higher speeds! The exhausts aren't dead level at the back and the passenger side one rattles a bit but that's probably me being a bit fussy, but it's something I'd like adjusted.
The ground clearance issue is surprisingly OK so far. It's definitely worse with a full tank of fuel however. But overall, very little scraping of the underside going on. Given the height of the car I think this shows very impressive body control. The new motorbike style fuel filler is frustrating however and personally I found the t350 ok and a really elegant solution. I find this new one spits back far more. It even covered my glasses once - glad I was wearing them! Could definitely be better but looks cool.
Better than a t350? More dramatic, bigger sense of occasion, better developed handling, more grip, same great interior, more bhp, more speed round corners and down the straights. I still love the t350 and always will but yeah, if you can stretch to the extra cash it's well worth it!

Sounds great!
However, if we're in ever in the same place at the same time you should have a drive of my t350c. I had it setup at Racing Green to the latest factory specs and now I can drive with 1 (or no) hands and it's fine. Not at all darty and doesn't tramline at all.
I've just had the new speedo sensor fitted so hopefully that will be comparable too!
Any chance of keeping a running report on here, like Di's? It'll be interesting to hear what it feels like when it's loosened up!!
The Pits.. thanks.. excellent
Currently looking at a T350 or Sagaris..hence the request. If you were to place your order again, is there anything you would change/request differently on your order?
I was looking at Grigio Titanio or Black Blue Mica or Mystic Black - with anthracite spiders. Noticed yours has anthracite spiders, but what is the exact colour? Also did you request an anthracite exhaust as per the original demo car? Cannot see from picture.
www.pistonheads.com/tvr/default.asp?storyId=7756.
The only extra I was going to go for was air con, nothing else. Interior would go for full black leather.. but you mention lamonta seat inserts, are these standard or need requesting.. do you have them? Again not sure what is standard vs optional on the interior, with ref lamonta & carbon leather.
I'm down at my dealer on Thursday to go through some of the detail, hence info gathering at the moment. Looks like there is a 3 month waiting list at the moment. If you have any other pictures of your car showing with the spiders showing, would be grateful if you could email me some..
Once again thanks...all views/comments welcome/appreciated.

I agree with black interior, they all look great. Personally I'm not one for the garish interior colours that some seem to like plus the light leathers get grubby and show their age much quicker.
I'd recommend contrasting stitching though and I'm glad I had it.
What would I do differently if I was ordering now? I've got the expensive close ratio gearbox option but to be honest I'm not sure what tangible benefit you gain. I can't really tell much difference over the t350 and the shift action is equally superb on both cars. I guess I'm glad I've got it just because you can, but I'm not convinced it's worth 1800 quid and it sure won't add to your re-sale value.
Now I know the vents are filled in, I'd have gone for a darker exterior colour. I chose a light colour so the vents would stand out better! Now the closed vents stand out a little too well! See other pics of reflex charcoal - it's mouthwatering! However it will show up paint chips and scratches if you're planning to use the car regularly. The xenon lights are cool but not really necessary. The air con is essential however even though it doesn't work particularly well!
Personally I love the anthracite spiders as they add aggression to any colour you chose. Gatwick tvr have come up with a new half way house spider which looks really good if you fancy something a little different. As far as I know all you ask for is 'anthracite spiders' if you want them. They are a no cost option.
Full leather is standard on Sagari but the lamonta option I'm sure could be specified. If you're a trackday enthusiast I'd recommend it, if only on the seats. The headlining is lamonta anyway so it would all go.
It's watch this space as far as exhausts go. Certainly I'm interested in something even louder at some point. A bit OTT perhaps but so is the rest of the car! At the moment you can only get the stainless steel ones that I and all the other sagari have.

Well I have the Reflex Charcoal + Anthracite Spiders spec and I cant wait. My interior options are contrasting cream and carbon leather. Ive kept my seat backs standard black as that kinda matches the dark colours anyway. I have contrasting stitching also. I tried the short ratio box out on a Tuscan S but decided that it was worth £1800. £1500 for the air con and £1800 for the reflex paint was enough for me as it was! Ive also got the paint protection jobby also.
I will keep a running report when I get her. Scheduled for 18th July
)))) Exhausts. Well I think we all know my opinion of the Sp6 sound and exhaust by now. I am having mine sleeved by Jamie at DM as soon as they get her. Going to sound the muts nuts!
My intention is keeping the 'Gris. After 3yrs and the Warranty if TVR havent produced their own Supercharged version (I suspect they will after a T400/40/Typhon roll out), I intend Supercharging mine.

Is this standard on the Sagaris or do you have to specify this, or is the dealer doing it?

What would anyone recommend with a dark exterior colour? (like Reflex Charcoal?)
Also anyone have any more detail on this Carbon leather, what it looks like and where is it best - dash?
Thanks again... Reflex Charcoal
Well…..I can’t give a comparison between a Sagaris and a T350 but I’ll do my best to make one between a Sagaris and a 4.5 Cerb.
We have had the Sagaris for two weeks (we've done 700 miles) and it was run in when we took delivery as it was Castle TVRs demo with just over 1500 miles on the clock.
Before anything else I want to say that we really loved our Cerbera.
It didn’t have any mods of any kind, was bog standard and apart from the usual starter motor and slave cylinder problem she really was a peach of a car. Had her 5 years, 55,000 miles and very little trouble. She popped spat and banged at every opportunity as Mid Essex peeps will confirm and was very, very loud.
The only reason we sold her was that we had been waiting too long for our Typhon and Ray saw the Sagaris and fell in love with the look.
Cosmetically the Sagaris is a more modern look. In our opinion the interior dash does not compare to the superior dash of the Cerbera. I know Mr Pits would probably disagree with me here,
but the Cerb has a great dash.
However, the dials in the Sagaris are easily read, are clear and you can have various readouts which of course the Cerb didn’t have.
You can also raise or lower the steering wheel in a different way to the Cerb, which has made the world of difference to me.
I miss the rear seats and boot of the Cerb…it was great for RO paraphernalia..
If you put too much stuff in the Sagaris, you just can’t see through the rear screen, which is restricted anyway and it’s obvious why the spoiler is clear.
I think the seats in the Sagaris are better than the Cerb, you don’t slip around so much whilst taking roundabouts at……
...er….
..…speed……
We have the carbon leather seat squabs and it seems to give extra grip to your derriere...
……
There is a HUGE amount more cabin room…it’s so much more spacious. I used to have to sit far forward in order to get the clutch to the floor in the Cerb, it bought me too close to the steering wheel and too far forward of the driver mirror.
The Sagaris is far more roomy, I don’t have to alter the seat, the steering wheel can be altered and it’s a far more comfortable driving position….for me.
It’s a different sort of sound. Used to the V8 roar, we now have to get used to the S6 scream and it’s taking a while.
Both Ray and I are finding that we are driving the Sagaris much more quickly than the Cerb and reaching higher speeds before we realize it.
The torque is not as great at low revs and I don’t feel as if the back is going to let go so easily if I put my foot down too hard on acceleration. It has a more ‘planted’ feel.
I love it!!!!!
I didn’t feel at first that the Sagaris is as quick accelerating as the Cerb, but it may be a misconception because it’s not as noisy. You always felt you were going quick in the Cerb because of the roar of the V8, but when Ray is driving and I look over at his speed he is generally going a lot quicker than when he drove the Cerb.
The engine/ride is a lot more smooth than the Cerb especially in heavy traffic. The Cerb used to suffer ‘transmission fight’ and it made the ride ‘lumpy’ at very low revs and in traffic jams.
At speed the Sagaris sticks to the road as if glued, steering is right on the button…sooo responsive…. doesn’t tram line as badly as the Cerb, corners really well (to my limited knowledge) but Ray says that when he is cornering fast and hits a bump in the road, the Sagaris doesn’t ‘skip’ as the Cerb sometimes tended to, the Sagaris holds to the road really well. The fact that the chassis is not so unsettled inspires more confidence at the edge….(Ray’s edge…..
I haven’t yet summoned the courage to really blat it rounds bends….
.I’d like some good track tuition first.
!!!!!!!)
He is really looking forward to his first track day.
Huge difference is the lights….
Wow!!! Full beam lights up the night as if it’s day…just not used to that!!!
Problems……yup…… a couple.
In fact the Peril went back to Castles today for a few bits to be sorted.
The worst is the fact that the blowers/fan/demisters packed up…so…no air con….and as the weather is improving that’s not good news.
At the same time the engine fans started to work permanently and a heater error code cropped up.
This was followed by a drop in tick over….not enough to keep stalling or for the engine to die…
We feel this is all related so hopefully ‘one fix’ should sort the rest.
The window rubber on the driver’s side came loose.
The driver’s speaker doesn’t work properly
The driver’s mirror makes a weird whistling sound…drives me crazy…..
When the windows are down the rear hatch vibrates and rattles, but apparently ‘they all do that sir’ and there is a fix.
There is moisture in the rear offside and front nearside light pods……apparently they are sealed units so Castles are looking into a way of fixing that.
Reversing light works when it feels like it!!!
The one HUGE difference that we both noticed immediately was the variation in the brakes between Cerb and Sagaris.
Jeez…there is no comparison….the Cerb brakes are soooo much better.
In fact, we have asked Castles to look at the brakes, just to check that they are operating at full strength.
The brakes are totally different, the pads may be much harder for track day use and there may be nothing wrong with them at all and we just have to get used to pressing far harder on the pedal.
Well there it is….warts and all……….
I can’t and wouldn’t say that the Sagaris is a better car than the Cerb…..it is most unfair to say that.
The Cerb is a great car and they are just …..different……..
The Cerbera attracted so much more attention than the Sagaris…..people would look round because they heard it before they saw it!!!
The only similarity there is that the Sagaris clears the outside lane just as effectively as the Cerb.
All I can say is that I personally didn’t enjoy driving the Cerbera, but I LOVE the Sagaris and Ray has sooo much trouble now keeping me from the driver’s seat!!!!!
Ray has said he will reserve judgement until his first track day….but I can tell from the grins as he drives that he is really enjoying this TVR.
We do miss the V8 roar…...
....of that there is no doubt…but..once the S6 reaches a certain speed…it sounds just like a GT car pulling away…and that’s really cool
and makes Ray grin every time!!!!
Would we change the spec….considering especially as we didn’t spec our Sagaris..
Well…it does look really good with a black interior.
I would advise a contrast stitching as we have ..but would have lightened the roof lining……….
Castles added amour fending…not to everyone’s taste but good for us as it’s Midas Gold
And we have tinted windows, done for us once we agreed to buy her.
Is it worth the 50+ grand depending on spec……….?…..
In our opinion…..yes.
In my opinion…..YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!
Wow...long post....sorry.....

Thanks for the great post.. exactly what I was looking for...a few questions (please)..
Could you explain please, still not sure what carbon leather is vs normal leather?
Are these the standard lights or gas discharge headlights?
Overall what is the wind noise like? Assuming they fix both of these problems? Anyone else like to comment?
I find the brakes on Tamora incredible.. the cerb brakes must be absolutely amazing...good to know.

Problems……yup…… a couple. The window rubber on the driver’s side came loose.
The driver’s speaker doesn’t work properly
The driver’s mirror makes a weird whistling sound…drives me crazy….
Overall what is the wind noise like? Assuming they fix both of these problems? Anyone else like to comment?

The one HUGE difference that we both noticed immediately was the variation in the brakes between Cerb and Sagaris. Jeez…there is no comparison….the Cerb brakes are soooo much better. pedal.
I find the brakes on Tamora incredible.. the cerb brakes must be absolutely amazing...good to know.
sorry and some more...
On a Reflex Charcol colour what stitching would you recommend? I was also thinking of tinted windows, looking at spec sheet they now come as standard?
Thanks again YP - much appreciate..
and one more time...

I would advise a contrast stitching as we have ..but would have lightened the roof lining.Castles added amour fending…not to everyone’s taste but good for us as it’s Midas Gold And we have tinted windows, done for us once we agreed to buy her.

Hi jasperj,
The carbon leather has an imprint of carbon fibre on it.....so it just looks like carbon fibre......
Downside is that it is much more expensive.......
Lights....I don't know......I assumed they were standard... I'll come back to you on that one..the spec sheet is at work.
The wind noise is okay. There will, I believe, always be wind noise with the design of the mirrors as they are. On the Sagaris coming out of the factory now, we noticed that they are moulding the mirrors to the bodywork, which must help reduce wind noise.
The Cerb was the same....especially on the passenger side.
Mind you....I do need to find a way to cure the whistle....cos that will just drive me insane!!!!!
Ray suffers from hayfever and has all the windows firmly closed....I love to have the windows wide open.......
Brakes...well...as mentioned, , could be we just have to get used to a different set up.
The standard tint is quite light.....we went for a deeper tint but still to be legal...as the
Essex are quite keen to pull you over re tints. Contrast stitching for Reflex Charcoal....well I'll
to the experts there and let them advise. We've always chosen yellow.........
I'm sure DJC will come back with an answer or if not...Danielle in the factory is good at advice on spec........

We have had our Sagaris for a week. It is back at Gatwick TVR for its first service ( just over 1000 miles)
We had a very noisy Tuscan and I have to admit to shedding a tear when we sold it.
Like Pauline we also have a rattle from the hatch at the back and moisture in one of our back lights.
We also had a problem with closing the hatch and at one stage it wouldnt open. Apparently the catch needs adjusting.
I know what you mean about the brakes Pauline - it feels like you are braking but nothing is happening and then it does!
I also love driving it but need the pedals brought closer because I am a bit of a shorta
e.
Theres no tramlining and it feels like it is stuck to the road. Barry also loves driving it (he did most of the driving)and cant wait to get it back to give it some stick.
We both miss the noise of the Tuscan though.
We went for a lighter inside and we really like it. Black looks good also. It's all a matter of choice.

For the record yellow peril I love Cerbera interiors! Probably the most original, imaginative interior designs ever! The 'captain nemo' tuscan interiors aren't bad either! I meant that TVR don't get enough credit for all their interiors, as opposed to just the Sagaris one, which is probably a little tame compared to most modern tvrs!
The only thing I don't agree with is the part about the brakes. I really think they are amazing. I've (sadly) never driven a cerbera but I know the pedals are different. I suspect more servo assistance from what you've said, which would improve the instant 'bite' of the brakes. The Sagaris brakes are like the t350/tamora in that the pedal is designed to be leant on, just like a race car.
This has two major advantages, one it helps prevent lock up and two you can increase the braking power smoothly and progressively, giving you very precise retardation (is this a real word?) control. It's the braking equivalent of the long travel throttle and if you continue to press hard the stopping power is immense. You can feel your eyes bulge! I think I can notice the extra braking power over the t350 too. If they stand up well on the track and don't fade they'll be the best brakes of any car I've had.
My headlights are xenon and are very, very bright on full beam, to the point where road signs can be dazzling. Only downside it that it makes dipped beam seem very weak!
Stitching with reflex charcoal? Given I nearly ordered it I was going for ocean green highlights and ocean green stitching. Very subtle, very british, very cool. If you wanted to go lighter inside I wouldn't say no to some saddle leather highlights either. I saw a tuscan 2 with saddle and black and it looked absolutely, properly stunning. Maybe Gatwick tvr will have some pics of it somewhere. The choice can be agonising but it makes our cars unique!
Factory visits help no end in choosing spec, I hope they make a come back.

Ahh..er...Ive forgotten what my contrasting stitching is!! I think I remember now! Ive got the carbon leather as the central panels on the seat, the bolstering around the outside in cream, the roll cage in cream, etc. The contrasting stitching then is in black, to match the other black trim. I think my carpets are black, with cream contrasting trimming around the edge. I was actually just thinking last night, that maybe I should have had red stitching, requested red harnesses and had my calipers painted red. 911 RS stylee as it were. Im happy with what I have though. Oh and I also meant to say *didnt* think the £1800 for the short ratio box was worth it, not that I *did* think it was.
Look, Ill attend a meeting sometime in July when I get mine, either a PH or a TVRCC meeting. Ill give rides and do the whole pic thing for ppl. Mine wont be doing any track days, except a trip out to the Ring and Spa if Pits is still up for it.
From the pics and cars Ive seen I certainly think Reflex Charc is by far the best colour for a 'Gris. Yellow works quite well with the black, but a plain black interior makes it too oppressive inside, you need a light relief colour. The lairy colours are all very well just for statement and impact, but they will be lousy to sell on. Light colours also dont suit the car at all. Its like Arnie or Stallone wearing pink...just looks naff. Avoid. Silver works..ish, but again you suffer from the "I wish Id bought a Porsche" syndrome that any non-Porsche sports cars in silver suffers from. Dark and solid deep colours work best with a subtle relief interior. I suspect a deep dark burgundary red will work very well, Ok, I know a deep dark burgundary red will work. A rich dark tan chocolate and carbon leather interior will look stunning then. Patent black exterior, full carbon leather, yellow trim and stitching matched with yellow harness and calipers would look stunning also.
