Tamora - new car niggles
Discussion
The biggest pain in the arse is people tailgating you, presumably trying to work out what the hell is making so much noise in front of them.
The second, is parking it anywhere you can see it from the house. You'll waste hours looking at it thinking "blimey, not much else on the road looks that outrageous"
Thirdly, getting back in a normal car (ie. Golf GTi) and being irritated that it can't pass 4 cars at once before the on-coming truck intimidates you into your own lane.
Finally, the niggles set in but they only give the car character. For example, your speedo will need replacing, the radiator will pop, the oil sender will leak, the electrics will
up, the boot won't open, the radio won't work, but none of those, repeat NONE OF THOSE make up for the fact you have the baddest, loudest best looking fastest car going.
God bless TVR.
Ha - just seen your profile. I'm sure you already know what I'm talking about!

Best answer I've read for yonks.
, Yep, I don't give a frog's fat @rse that the trim isn't quite up to mass manufacturer standards, and I periodically have to glue loose bits back in place, 'cus once you drive it, it all fits in place, and I have found there's nothing else like it, driving fast or slow

This made me laugh out loud! The thought of someone actually thinking this to be true is so funny!
LOL, indeed, and, on days like today, can you take off the roof on the T350??, You can on the Tam, and you get to smell the lovely aroma of Bluebells and other flora and fauna, not just hot fibreglass!

Actually the interior of my t350 smells gorgeous this morning after conditioning the leather with gliptones liquid leather. The old fashioned smell of leather wafts throughout the car without any hint of "essence of resin."
LOL, I bet that does smell lovely
, was only kidding, btw, I love 'em all
, T350 being a stunner in perticular,,blackmonday said:
What have the niggles been for those collecting their Tamora? Was there anything out of the ordinary that the dealer didn't find that you did? What about the first few days/weeks?
So, does anyone have anything relevant to add to this thread?
Here is a list of things I've compiled so far to check out when collecting or keep an eye on duing the first 1000 miles-
- Air conditioning (all vents working?)
- Heater (all vents working?)
- Windows
- Indicators
- Lights
- Interior light
- All caps present? (oil, water, fuel, tyres, etc.)
- Wing mirrors
- Horn
- Rubber seals
- Scratches, chips, marks
- Speedo accurate?
- Windscreen wipers (flued ok, intermittent)
- Door locks
- Carpets (stitching, piping)
- Dash pod illumination

Blackmonday, Jimmyt answered your question.
"Niggles" are inevitable on a handbuilt car. From what has been posted about other post-Moleskins models, it's business as usual. If you spot faults in the showroom don't be tempted to take possession of the car until they are fixed. If they appear afterwards, it's on a warranty. Mechanical reliability in new cars is another question, but you don't ask about that in your topic questions. I drove a brand new Ford Focus the other day and the engine cut out in the middle lane of a busy freeway at night. Now, that's an alarming incident to worry about in a new car, trim coming loose is not a threat to life and limb.

Unfortunately I'm after specific issues (my apologies for not being more specific in my original post). I agree with what everyone has said, but I'm looking to put together as definitive a list as I can of things to look out for in a new Tamora. This will be my third TVR and I'm doing everything I can to make it as good of an experience as I can. I thought I would ask other Tamora owners my question as in the past the Pistonheads community has proven helpful and informative.

We took delivery of a new Tamora in March.
Minor paint blemishes and overspray (buffed at the 1000 mile service)
Crack in rear diffuser (sorted at 1000 mile service).
Winscreen washer fault (sorted at 1000 mile service).
Nothing else.
Since then (2000 miles) nothing.
How many faults the car had before an excellent PDI at Hexam HC is unknown. In general car finish and attention to detail has improved since a new T350 delivered in January 2004.
Biggest complaint - its doesn't smell like a new TVR (no smell of resin which both self and MrsS quite like)

Tamora from Silverstone TVR in Oct last year.
Based on your Bucks location I guess you are buying from Silverstone. In which case I would not worry too much. They were superb with my Tam and my old mans Tuscan.
I would suggest that you save anything for the 1000 miler rather than pester every time you find something, that way you get your car back fully sorted.

Here is my complete list of issues post pdi:
1) Bonnet Catch would not always work
2) Faulty oil sender - easy to spot as it drips oil
3) ECU that went bang (it was due to incorrect water ceiling)
4) Faulty heat exchanger - steam came up through vents
5) Drivers door would not open on a hill!
Thats it. In fact thats it full stop. The only thing I did was got the second expansion tank added as it drove me knuts that it was so warm.
Wheels needed balancing but me thinks they have always been out, and just a high speed trip in France made me realise this!

I wonder what it is about the making of Tamoras that has 'em so damn healthy?
The list of faults on our T350 built last year wasn't so very different.
However, it maybe the Tamora is bought by a higher percentage of enthusaists who except the few niggles and just want to drive and enjoy.

Did you have to pay for the second expansion tank or was it completed under warranty?.
I had the second tank fitted under warranty.
What's the expansion tank for and why get a second fitted? Is it as simple as asking for one to get fitted whilst the car is under warranty? No strings attached (or £££ paid out
