Idle irritation
Discussion
My t350 has been trouble free for a while now (thankfully) after it's 'new owner' strop.
However, recently I've noticed that when the car is cold (and to a lesser extent when it's warm) idle revs vary massively (400-700-400-650-450-700-400 type of thing). Always up then down. When warm it's 800-750-800)
It's due a service and valve clearances doing in 2k miles, is this likely to be a symptom of incorrect clearances? Or throttle pot adjustment/tune perhaps.
The car's going back to Blackpool next week anyway, so I'll ask them to take a look at it then, though some peace of mind before hand would be appreciated!

Talking to myself again it would seem! I've just been for a thrash and it would seem the car will only rev to about 6200 rpm (when very warm, obviously).
Judging by other posts, I'm beginning to think that both issues could be related to the HT leads breaking down under load. Worth a call to ACT for some replacements?

My T350c has started doing that, sometimes even when up to proper running temp.
One thing i have noticed though, is when we have the air con on, with the fans on max, the engine struggles to tick over.
So i adjusted the tick over, fine for a while, till stuck in traffic, and starts to get a bit hot.
Then the engine revs to much.
So i also would like some info as to whats causing this.

What do the HT leads cost? Sounds like a possible culprit, but shirley there would be a slight degradation in performance too?!
Mine doesn't seem that keen to rev out (and the S6 is supposed to make most of its power high in the rev range so I was surprised when mine didn't feel to) so it sounds likely in my case.
The ACT leads are about 110+VAT for the set I think.
I think I'll order a set - can't do any halm and might do a lot of good.
Oddly, I've just taken the car out, and idle was constant 650rpm when cold.

Get the service done. It will be a different car when you get it back, and you'll wonder what you were worried about.
Had exactly the same with my Tuscan, but with an added high-rev misfire thrown in. The car I got back was not the car I dropped off
hmmm, it had a service 4k miles and 4 months ago so it shouldn't be in such a state should it?

It doesn't take much for them to go out-of-tune.
Maybe it is a loose H.T. lead, one breaking down, or any one of a myriad things.
The point is, don't fret too much, as it's probably something simple and easily fixed!
Hope I haven't jinxed you!

Beware of mucking with the idle setting! I had the idle problem (and still do) but not the rev limiting problem and I tried to alter the idle setting. I adjusted the wrong allen bolt and threw all of the throttles out. I've never been so terrified as when I started it up the next day and it sounded like it had two cylinders and had been magically changed to a two stroke!
Luckily a mate of mine had one of those vacume gauge thingumies and he fixed the throttles back to where they should be. But, even now, the idle is a little low (around the 400 - 500 mark) when the car is cold. I've just had to learn to live with it. When I take it for its next service (which is some way off) HHC have offered to look at it.

Sorry, excuse ignorance, what is an HT lead?
HT stands for High Tension. Just another term for ignition (spark plug) leads.
When the insulation starts to 'break down' (lose its' insulation properties), the spark can (and usually does) take the easiest path to ground, which means it won't reach the plug and you end up with reduced (or no) combustion in that cylinder

Ah speed sixes-don't you just love the paranoia!
From my experience its fine.
My Tuscan used to go of tune around 4000 miles after a service. It would be as rough as nails untill it warmed up,often stalling on the first attempt to pull away. After a trip to Barnet it was as sweet as you like.
Even at its roughest once warmed up gently and then let rip it would pull like a Saturn 5.
My T350 is showing exactly the same erm...personality.Its just done its first 4500 and last week it started to run just a fraction rough before it warms up.
Once its warm its a beauty.
Just bare in mind its in a high state of tune-not a race engine but closer to race than a 'normal' engine.

I, dare I say it, stalled the car on a couple of occasions last night whilst in heavy traffic with the air con on.
Having previously read valhalla's comments I turned the air con off, the revs rose by 100-150 and no stalling problems. Put the air con back on, revs drop 100-150 and stalling became an option again. A foot full of revs sorted the problem, but when lifting off the loud pedal it just stalled again. Arggghh!
Another quirk to add to the list I guess...
