My number plate is fixed directly to the exhaust heat shield, and it keeps melting, but when I saw maddog's car at VW, he had a fixing that kept the plate away from the heat shield, although my dealer doesn't know about this.

Has anyone else got this fixing, and if so, can you either post some close-up pics or e-mail them to me?

Is it a standard piece of kit I should be able to get from TVR?

cheers

Mine is fixed directly to the heatsheild also, the other week, I noticed one of my nuts (!!) came loose too. I got around this little prob by using a nut and bolt, been fine since! (Hope I get my bonnet back this week, I have all week off and a bonnetless Tam!! )

I had my plate melt too. Solved by getting some longer screws and puting two or three washers between the plate and the shield to create a gap. It has been fine since.

That sounds like a pretty good solution, thanks

Hi, my solution was similar. I used longer screws, metal washers and thick rubber ones each end.

ie no. plate/metal 'penny' washer/rubber washer/metal 'penny' washer/heat shield/metal washer/bolt (I think).

Use good size washers because the heatshield does warp around the no plate holes and is inclined to therefore increase the size of those holes.

It keeps the plate well clear of heatshield and now no problems (earlier attempts didn't work out).

Excuse stating the obvious, but remove the heatshield completely and do not leave too much thread protruding otherwise the screws could hit the exhaust itself.

It's early but I hope that makes sense.

Steven

Ta - to remove the heatshield presumably you need to remove the diffuser?

No, not at all, the heatshield is held in place by 4 bolts, 2 accessed from inside the boot, and the other 2 are bolted onto the diffuser
