I posted an article a couple weeks ago and got some great replies about the comparative virtues of the Tuscan 2 and the Tamora .... Thanks to all of you and I'm going with the Tamora.
So I've fallen in love with an electric blue beauty (2.5k miles) at Racing Green, Ash Vale but I was really surprised by their warranty. Used cars have a one year warranty but this doesn't cover any labour costs. I've got two problems with this
1. What does this say about the dealer's confidence in themselves to sell a quality car
2. Aren't labour cost a pretty significant component of any bill ... where's the motivation for them not to see the car in for repairs every other month???
Anyway, I would really appreciate some comments on this, is this the norm at all TVR dealers. If so I think it make sense to fork out the extra £££'s for a new one with 3 year full warranty, or do those not cover labour costs either???

No its not the norm. I have used TVR warranty, taken out in the last few months) that covers parts and labour. Its claim limit, per claim is £2K.

Yup, that's what I got, and agree that a warranty be pretty pointless if it doesn't cover labour - go speak to some other TVR dealers, then go back to RG and tell them you would like the car, but will go elsewhere if they can't cover labour costs.
I think I said in another thread the same thing... EVEN if they include labour....
AS AT WHAT RATE THE LABOUR is, ie their full wack 60-70 quid an hour???
So they make a profit on you....? IT should at most be no more than TVR would pay them if it was under TVR direct warranty (ie much less, 25-30 quid an hour?), just to give them an insentive to sell you a car that won't cost them to put right.
This is hoepless even if you include labour, you go to the dealer to get peace of mind, and YOU PAY a premium over private, for that and a good warranty.
AND the difference between buying privately and the dealer is a dammed sight more than £2k. Let alone the trade in differences.
ANY other manufacturer, let alone perfomance ones, have no limits (except perhaps up to the value of the car) for a young car with low mileage.
Given the recent s6 history, perhaps you can compromise on £2k max claim on anything else, but the engine up to £6k.....
IT is still hopeless though, as it shows no confidence/faith in their own product...
I'm preety sure that their were no such limitations a few years ago, on say a 2-3 year old GRiff/Chim with 12k miles on the clock.
Maybe the dealers ONLY want to sell new ones in the future, with only a £2k warranty, you would be mad not to buy privately, get it inspected by someone compatnt, and you would be easily able to put 2-3-4-5k aside in your savings account, for your own 'warranty' AND still have paid less than a similar car at the delers.
MAD business sense
B
Ultimately, as I guess this is a third party warranty, that the warranty companies are protecting themseleves, and don't offer the TVR dealers anything better, as they have been burned in the past (now only the past we hope
). Which is GOOD business sense, if you are a warranty company
B
EDITED TO add, just reread original post, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS is on a car with only 2.5k miles..

Quick look at Autotrader
Laser Blue tamora, 04 6300 miles - £28,500 - BEFORE HAGGLING a lot
At Racing Green
Laser Blue Tamora, 53, 3000 miles £32,995 - Will they come down on price?!
So thats's a £4.5k saving before you 'negotiat' with the private seller, who I bet has been offered a LOT less by a Dealer for his car...
as the warranty is only for a year anyway, I know which car I'd go for.
Other private sales, 02, 03 are all under £25k

Thanks guys, some great advice. I think I might have a go at haggling a decent warranty with Racing Green, but the more I think about it, its absolutely crazy.
If it doesn't make sense to buy through a dealer to get some peace of mind when buying a performance car, then when will it? What annoys me most is that it implies a total lack of confidence on the part of the dealer, in their own ability to prepare the car.
A good friend of mine bought a Ferrari 355 (very second hand) and whilst he had quite a few problems with it, the dealer has been fantastic in honouring the warranty. They even extended it for a further 6 months because he complained about the number of times he had had to use the warranty!!!
By the way, does anyone know if you can buy a one year warranty and if so how much are they approx???

If you find a decent second hand private one, the money you save from the dealer (usually at least £2K) will get you a very decent private warranty, I had one, and used it too without any hassle (I was very lucky with that perticular warranty though!),,,,, however, if things do go wrong in the first few months, buying from a dealer would give more peice of mind

This is getting RIDICULOUS.
As has been said, this shows the dealer has no confidence in its own product.
I have been monitoring 2nd hand values and they are plummeting. I'd rather haggle and buy a good private example. The dealers are having a laugh at the prices they are trying to sell at. They must be feeling pretty desperate - perhaps hoping to make money on maintenance work!!!
If TVR does not do something about this, the majority of potential customers are going to walk away lacking total confidence in these cars and TVR are going to go down the tubes.
What a blumin' waste.
