Hi,

I've got chipsaway coming this week to sort out some slight scuffing at the bottom edge of the front of the car. To do this he says I need to raise the car so he can gain access to it.

I'll need to raise the whole front not just one side. What's the best place to jack it from? Is there a specific point to jack it via a trolley jack? Can I then position some axle stands under the chassis?

I've searched the archives but couldn't find any concensus of opinion, and I also heard a rumour that if you jack it slightly wrong it can crack the windscreen?

Thanks.

I have had the front of my Tam up, using axle stands (after a wheel refurb).
I used the main chassis rails where they meet (and have a triangular crossbrace) for the jacking points without any problems, same for the rear too. I did use a small block of wood to cushion the contact area of the jack to the chassis, just as a precaution against scratching.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for that.

Did you jack each corner invidually or did you jack it up in the centre of the car first and then put axle stands under the front corners?

Thanks.

Hi Rob,

No, I did one corner at a time, just to be safe, not half as difficult to do as I initially thought.
