Peeling from under the wheel arches.

While I was cleaning my T350 I noticed so black material peeling off from under all the wheel arches. It looks like somekind of black protection paint.
The car is new and has only done 1100 miles.
Is this normal?
Can anyone tell me what this is? Is it a problem?
Shoulds the car go back to the dealer?
Please advise.

That will be covered under your warranty, get the dealer to sort it, its quite a know problem.
Mine also had this, but mine was out of warranty, so I had to use my modelmaking skills to rectify it.
The problem occurs because the wheel arch pattern has not been finished and prepared properly. The chemicals in the black wheel arch react not too kindly to be covered with a paint with a totally different chemical make up, and it tries to force itself up to the surface, thus destabilising the bodywork paint. All this is due to sloppy finishing before the main paint was sprayed on.

No, it's not a huge prob, I bought my Tam when it was just under 2 years old, and the peeling prob had never been rectified. I very carfully cut off the body paintwork that overlapped the wheel arch black paint (wheels had to come off), and then sanded and re-painted the wheel arches black, since then (well over a year ago), I haven't had a prob, and it looks a lot neater!
You do need to make the dealer aware of this, though. It will not get any better, and you may as well get it rectified for free.

My T350 is two and a half years old now, and has been peeling like that since the day i bought it.
Every time i wash under the arches, more comes off
The car will come to no harm with this fault,
But if you are going to do it your self, remember to sand it down first.
I had mine repainted by the dealer, and all that fell off aswell. It's due to the releasing agent/polish/shiny gelcoat, that T*R use on the molds, and they forget to wash/sand it, before painting the underside.
Its a common problem with Glass fibre moldings that i have come across many times in my 35 years in using the stuff.

Mine was the same after 3 months, used roof felt bitumastic as a replacement and still like new after one year.
Does take two to three days to properly cure as it is meant to stick roof felt to wood, stones now just bounce off it.
Forgot to say had a fantastic blast from Longleat via the A roads back home.

Go to Halfords, and get the 'Underseal with Waxoil', and paint it with this, it gets rid of the problem, and protects the arches. I use this on my Tuscan and the T350. Good stuff and only £5.00 a tin
