Yesterday Ray and I took the Peril to her second track day which was organised by Guillotine and held at Snetterton.
Those that read any YP posts will know that the Peril went to track at Castle Coombe and, quite apart from the fact that a monsoon hit on the day, the Sagaris sheared a starter motor after only doing three laps behind the pace car .

We could only go on Saturday at the last minute but arrived at Snet and managed to get Ray on track.

He never takes passengers for the first few laps on any circuit until he gets the feel of it, but after only being there a few minutes we had a list of hopeful passengers

On this occasion, the cautious approach held good as after 5 laps coming out of the bend, blasting down the Revett Straight that leads to the Esses, foot on the floor at 130mph...the throttle got stuck open.

Apart from the huge rush of andrenelin, first thought was 'Oh Fk and he jumped on the brake to scrub off some speed, chucked it into the Esses sideways, which scrubbed off some more speed, back on the brakes and into the second part of the Esses on to the rumble strip, which gives you a case of rattley eyeballs and blurred vision
He managed to keep it on the black stuff and avoid the armco (thank God) and bought her back to the pits.

The throttle was getting stuck in the very last quarter of it's travel. With some help from mates new and old for advice and the supply of tools..... thanks to Steve Guglielmi and Shaun (Guillotine's son) Ray backed off the throttle stop so you couldn't use the last quarter of throttle travel.

As this occured over the lunch period, no track time was actually missed and the Sagaris was back on track after lunch, albeit at three quarter power.

The queue of pasengers formed again and the Sagaris was on track for the rest of the afternoon and didn't miss a beat.

Impressions..........well it was the first time Ray could give the Sagaris some real welly...we don't have to travel abroad for work as I know some do, so it's not often we get the chance to experience her true potential..like most of us I suspect.

Should say at this point that the following comments are relative to the fact that the only other TVR that Ray has tracked is a 4.5 Cerb.

I'm typing for Ray now......(If I left it to him we'd be here all day )

"I have to say that after the buttock clenching moment at the Esses the brakes are a huge improvement after the Cerbs, although the required pedal pressure is much greater.....but the stopping power is truly amazing.

With the Cerb the brakes were good but it was easy to lock the wheels. With the Sagaris there seems to be far better sensitivity and the feed back is so much better, you can feel when the brakes are about to lock giving far greater control. Even after 15-20 laps there was no brake fade, although they did get by hot

The handling is a vast improvement over our standard Cerb. On the edge it was easy to have the Cerb snap round, the Sagaris is far more controllable.

High speed four wheel slides....(I know that's not the fastest way to get round the corner but it's huge fun.......Yeee Haaa )are more controlled, the turn in is much more accurate and the standard tyres fitted to the Peril (Goodyear F1s) have much better grip, (I tried Toyos and Bridgestones on the Cerb).

The suspension held good even after the mammoth trip over the rumble strips....the Cerb would have spun, I have no doubt about that.

The seats in the Sagaris are far more grippy, no sliding down them but I felt they didn't offer enough lateral support round the corners.
The top of the seat which comes round in a 'wing' proved to be a little awkward with the helmet touching it.

The reduction in torque over the Cerb engine at the lower rpms makes the Sagaris easier to drive out of the corners (probably slightly slower)but once the revs build it's just By incredible and sounds just like a GT race car....and all this on three quarter power...heaven only knows what it's true potential really is.....I can't wait now to find out!

The Sagaris is just truly awesome.
Worth every single penny.....IMO is a huge improvement over our standard Cerb.
I enjoyed every lap getting faster and faster as my confidence in this incredible machine grew.

To say that I can't wait to get back on track is an understatement..........I would love to throw her around Castle Coombe which is my favourite track.

If anyone out there is toying with the idea of whether this TVR is worth the outlay of hard earned....the answer is YES......OH YES.........
Just give me a call and I'll leave you in no doubt....
..................................................

Well folks...there you have it.....I think I can safely say that Ray is thrilled to bits with our Sagaris....

I was a little worried.....he always loved our Cerb and has never said that the Sagaris was faster ....he always reckoned that the Cerb would have higher top speed and that tracking would be the test.

I knew that the first time he tracked would be the ultimate test as to whether he preferred the Cerb or the Sagaris..........well there's no doubt now.

He's a happy bunny and so were all the passengers he took round on Saturday

Have to say that I have missed the V8 sound, but standing on the pit wall the Sagaris sounded amazing as it flew past..........

Has a sound all of it's own and you could tell when either Ray or Michael Caine in his went blatting past.

Sorry about the long post but Ray was dead pleased and wanted to share it...............

Glad you enjoyed it, TVRs are are good fun when let loose.

Looks like it was a good day at Snet and the weather was kind to you. Lets hope its stays that way for the BNG this coming week-end where we look forward to meeting you both.

I went to snetterton earlier this year... I still had my Tuscan back then. It rained some, worse than Castle Combe. So never got to gripps with the track at high speed.

The throttle sticking open is a worry, could have been very nasty as things can get a bit tight into the Esses. Glad you had fun!

I wish I'd come to Snetterton this w/e now. By the way, what do you do for insurance on the track?

Regards

David

Sounds amazing and the photo's superb too.

Sorry to hear about the throttle glitch, not a nice glitch to have but much admire the 'get back on the horse' mentality.

How was the bonnet? It must have been doing well over 140 down revett straight...

Look out for Sagaris month 5 coming soon. I've (today) just got back from a 1500 mile trip to Italy (Italian GP) and back, across and under the alps. Incredible trip and I am even more in awe of the car. It's really a car of hidden depths and talents. The better I get to know it, the more I think of it. What TVR have achieved is gobsmacking. To my eyes it's a total work of art and better still, it goes every bit as well as it looks!

Sorry to invade your forum, but being a a sp6 owner, and having been round snetterton in july, must vouch for how b****dy brilliant my tuscan was and how fast it got round this amazing track. Absolutely marvellous, great handling, faster than everything else bar the radical SR4.

Even munched past a 996 GT2 on the straight, which my instructor couldn't get past in the exige. Teeheeheehee!!!!!!!!

Shame I was the only TVR out that day......
Will go again though......

Yours,

Simon

No problem Simon....

Ray was following a black /dark Tuscan that was going at a spanking pace round the track...

To be fair..it was a modified Meet..so most were blinking fast
Some great TVRs there....

Pits...sounds a great trip...will look forward to the next instalment.

Thanks YP

Must talk to them next year when my policy expires. I'm on a classic policy at the moment which does not really fit the Sagaris.
