Do both driver's and passenger's door wondows drop a bit when you open the door?

Only the passenger side does on mine (yes I eventually got my mits on one - I'll update my profile later this week after she's had a wash and brush up).

If the driver's side one is being naughty does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi Richard
No, both windows are not meant to drop a bit when you open one door, though i'm starting to get probs with both mine sticking, and not allowing the glass to drop enough to clear the roof.
However i think i have found the cause of that....it always seems to happen to me the next morning after washing the car, so now when i put her in the Garage, i make sure both windows are down a couple of inches.
You could always by yourself a spray can of silicon lubricant, i have also started using that, and it seems to have cured the problem (for the time being anyway).

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply.

Just to be clear; When I open the driver's door using the wing mirror button the driver's window glass doesn't drop.

If I open the passenger door using the passenger wing mirror button (obviously) the passenger window glass does drop.

I presume the driver's side should drop when I open the driver's door.

OK next question - where do the door ECUs live?

Presumably not inside the doors as that would be too easy.

From the fuse box layout I reckon there are 2 for each door. 1 controls the door opening and wing mirror button deactivation on locking and 1 controls window opening and closing.

Of course I could be totally wrong about that.

Anyone any experience with these control units?

I think they are in the footwell kind in the inner wing area. Small black box. Not sure if there is one for each side or just one for both.

Hi Richard,
If the window doesn't drop does that mean you have to manually drop it before closing? So you can then manually raise it up into the seal.
As it doesn't drop I'm suprised the door opens as the window pushes up into the seal.
Hope you get it sorted easily.
Cheers.... Andrew

Now sorted after a 4 hour repair!

Door window drop works on the interior light switch and is separate from the lock opening.

The interior light switch is located in the door sill inside the lock and is switched via the lock mechanism.

Having stripped down the lock I found that the boys in the factory had fitted the switch upside down so that it was nowhere near the part of the lock which pushes it closed on closing the doors.

The door ECU obviously ignores a permanently on interior light switch if the door lock is locked so the battery was not being drained and the interior light was not on all the time.

However, it could not work out when the door window should be dropped. It probably generates a pulse when it senses that the interior light switch has changed from open to closed or vice versa.

Anyway, a bit of remounting in the correct place (having redrilled the holes for the fixing screws) and all was well.

Just hope that's all they got wrong when they put my car together!

Good work Richard! TVRs must be the only Marque left that demands a 'hands on' approach by owners! It is no wonder that quality of these cars vary so much when simple but very niggling mistakes like that are allowed to be made unnoticed. Perhaps you should invoice TVR for rectifying their mistakes and charging them a few hours at their labour rates??

Thanks Chris.

To be honest I quite enjoy getting to know the inner workings of my TVRs.

I also spent a couple of hours taking the centre console out to sort out a sticking handbrake ratchet.

If I took the car to a dealer to get these things fixed they would probably charge me a few hundred quid and rip the seats in the process!

LOL, funny you should say that, when I asked a dealer to sort out my reverse light switch, not only did they not fix it (told me they looked at it and said it was broke/faulty and they would order a new one), but someone also managed to put a ruddy great gouge out of the leather on the transmission tunnel, near the handbrake! (In fairness, they did repair it when I took it back)
The new reverse switch never arrived, and I had forgotten about it, until I had my C/R gearbox put in, the guy told me there was nothing wrong with the switch, it was just 'hanging' by its wire,,, he screwed it back in place and hey presto, reverse light works, and has been working ever since!
