Hi All

Just out of curiousity has anyone know of "a friend's" car that might have had one of these things fitted, do they work and how neat does the finish look. Oh and what is the existing legal position on this?

Not that i was thinking of buying one but really more interested to know if any t350s or tamoras had had one neatly installed.

The legal position is a bit of a grey area. But if you're found using one, expect to get charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice, or something similar.

More to the point, as I understand it, they're very difficult to set up properly so they work. Someone on the S2000 board where I moderate tried it a couple of years ago and they just couldn't get the positioning sufficiently exact that it would do what it was supposed to.

Bearing in mind both of those factors, I wouldn't bother......

A warning to anybody thinking of buying one of these!

A friend of mine has a M3 CSL and he recently sent me a thread from the M forum about a guy who is waiting to hear subsequent to the following:

When you use one of these jamming devices it returns an ‘error’ to the police laser gun if aimed on your car. The police are now logging the number plates of cars returning these errors and if an error is returned on more than one occasion in their databse for a specific car, they take action.

The guys M3 returned errors on no more than 5 separate occasions in a 2 month period, so the police visited his house, confiscated his M3, took it away, stripped it down, found the offending device behind the front grille. They are now prosecuting the owner with various things including intending to pervert the course of justice. He Is looking at a short stretch at her Majesty’s pleasure apparently.

My advice is DON’T get one!

Anyone have one of them new road angel's and how good are they at laser detection?
Not even run the car in yet and been caught by a mobile speed trap! Need some technology to help me out.

No, they're certainly not illegal to buy. Just don't see the point unless you're prepared to use it and run the risk of Dibble feeling your collar and finding it.....

I run a Valentine One laser/radar detector (generally considered to be the Daddy of such devices - or at least it was when I bought it a while back) and an Origin B2 GPS-based system.

(That still didn't stop me getting done by a gatso in Scotland a couple of years back I suspect I must have had the roof down and the stereo up, and so didn't hear it. Doh..... )

They are not illegal to buy becasue they can be used for other things that are not UK road based e.g Shows, track day timing etc. They are however illegal to use on UK roads in these circumstances, resulting in severe penalites for people found using them for this purpose.

I have heard this several times now. Question is, how true is it? I can understand how this would happen, but do the Police have their act together sufficently to actually carry this out (unless all the jamming sessions were local/same force).

OK so what do i use? Like most of us on here i am not a crazy driver, take great pride in my car and am completely miffed that we now have a situation where white vans are being parked behind bushes etc and actually managed by not the police but to all extents the local authority. I detest councils, i've worked in 'em and would never go there again...(rant, rant)

Anyway what do people use. I need gatso and laser cover and it needs to look 'neat' in my baby.

You need to realise that anything which detects laser emissions is unlikely to give you a lot of warning.

Your best hope is that it picks up some back-scatter from a car in front which is being targeted, which MIGHT then give you enough time to slam on the anchors and get under the limit by the time they target you. That's a big MIGHT though.

If the alarm goes off because you've been targeted directly, you're already too late to do anything about it.....
