Can someone please give me some advice as far as day to day maintenance of the car eg checking oil etc, topping up. I love this car so much I do not want to bugger it up by not looking after it properly. I am obeying the 60 degree oil temp criteria. This purchase has made me a happy boy and when I work out how to post pics on here I will send some good pics...
Sorry to sound so naieve but getting advice from old hands I feel is the way forward...

Cheers

Adam

Welcome to the clan. You can post a pic direct into your profile by using your browser. To post into threads try www.ph.uncle-dave.co.uk full instructions on the site.

Check oil and water regularly. I do mine every week, although I've only used a pint of oil in 4000 miles. Oil has to be checked at normal operating temperature so be careful not to burn your hand - I use a leather glove. Obviously (doh) don't check water when hot (crispy fried fingers).

Hope you enjoy your P&J as much as most owners seem too.

The water also shouldn't be right up to the brim, it will settle out at its own level (usually just above the bit where the hose comes out the side of the coolant tank). Best way to measure the water level is by sticking the handle of a wooden spoon (or something similar) in to the tank and seeing what the level is.
Not sure if you already knew this/had been told this.

Wash/wax regularly and enjoy!!

Hi Adam, the car never used a drop of oil all the time i had it, you will find that when you check it, it is above the max mark on the dipstick. Check once a week anyway.
Water level tends to be about 3-4 " below top of neck, i used to check by inseting handle on a wooden spoon.
All tyres best at 24 psi alround.
Only thing car needed was a sports exhaust - go on you know you want too

The only bad thing about buying a car this time of year, is that winters on the way.

BTW my email is still waiting for the pic

Just out of interest, what would the full oil level be on the dipstick when cold, cos this would be easier to read than measuring when warm. Half way? Anyone know?

I keep some kitchen roll in the boot, especially when filling up, still getting used to taking twice as long to fill up. The fuel does spurt out if you're not patient.
