GT3 vs. T350 - The Verdict!!
Discussion
HO - HUM - Where do I start?
Well, after much disagreement about the "rules" it was decided that both of us would tap off at 250kmh as I freely admitted that not only has the porker a higher top-end but more stable at 250 plus speeds - so round one to the GT3 - without even putting pedal to metal.
SO, at 6.30am we lined up on a dead quiet stretch of highway - and with a nod to each other we were off - and so was I - literally, made the huge mistake of too much pedal in first and practically lost it as the Tiv fishtailed violently left - right etc. managed to recover but too late to make a dent in the porkers perfect take off - felt like a complete wally, good job the GT3 driver is a mate of mine as he doubled back and sportingly asked if I was ok - round 2 to him, clearly very confident he (stupidly as it turns out) asked if I wanted another go - shaken but willing I agreed.
So, for the final off - again a nod but this time I let her go at 3500 rpm and we were off - the GT3 shot off although I did notice some axle tramp going on - up to 7200 rpm and I was about a car and a half length behind having made some ground, into second and we were neck and neck as I changed into third (no idea what the revs were - but she was screaming) into third and the GT3 was loosing some ground - not a lot but the T350 was flying - and I mean FLYING - did'nt dare check my speed but redlined it again and into fourth - had to check my speed and at 225 excactly put her into fifth - GT3 still a car length behind - almost nothing in it as we rapidly hit 250 - porker was definately making ground but if there had been a tape - reckon I would have broken it - if only by a bollock hair or 2.
Result - well, one seriously impressed GT3 driver - could'nt believe I passed him in 3rd - reckons he was pedal to the metal trying to keep up and of course had to brag that he would have passed me - fair enough I said - but that moment of passing AND maintaining a small lead to 250 - considering he had much more traction at takeoff - I'm still grinning from ear to ear. Had the T350 gotten a better start the lead would have been 2 carlengths I reckon - no way can that GT3 beat the T350 in 2nd and 3rd - no way. and the car - well oil pressure was down a tad after the thrashing but I did go on a 350km run with me mates afterwoods and car showed no ill effects - oh - forgot to mention loaded up with 105 octane BP racing fuel last night HE! HE! Good day ... Good Day ... Good day ...

chris watton said:Cheers Chris - was a great feeling - but I've got to say - anything much above 250 and the GT3 would pull away - fantastic car and has my respect, BUT then again imagine a TVR that cost the same as a porker - with the same investment and engineering - would be a world Beater and say's a lot for a car that costs half as much.
Tim, fantastic! What a great read that was! You did TVR proud!

Great read... bit too close for me to say "I told you so" but the initial launch and top end prowess are testament to Porsche engineering, the bit in between is what makes TVRs ing great!
Plus the fact that maybe the £40K TVR is a more thrilling drive all of the time! When these machines with soul are on song, they demand respect from any other car on the road, even machines that cost twice as much and beyond!
hobo said:OK Hobo - hear what you are saying however you must understand that JHB is the 4th (or maybe 5th) highest altitude in the world for running cars hence the air is something like 18 - 20% less dense - ergo pump fuel is only 93 octane - VERY BAD for a car with an extremelely high compression ratio like a TVR - causes all sorts of problems like high rev detonation, knock on start-up (Hmm - TVR should have fitted the knock sensors) anyway, the Porsches sold here are properly tuned and set-up for SA conditions, whereas the few TVR's that have been sold here arent - running higher octane fuel is not really cheating just evening up the odds a bit - besides driving an S6 hard on pump fuel over here can cause oh - just a few small problems like er... engine blown up! (I am already on my 2nd motor). Anyway whatever ... We won right?
Wihtout meaning to put a dampner on it, but what fuel was the GT3 running on ?
I only ask, I it would be nice to know they were both running the same to make the result a fair one.

Erm, depends what you mean by 'we'. If you were talking to someone who's just about to chop in a TVR for a Porsche then 'we' probably isn't the correct word to use![]()
what porky are u going for? What r u looking for ur t350...

Cool stuff about a drag race.
Just out of curiosity which section of road did you use??
(I have a mate from SA who's asking).
Was the porker running high octane fuel as well??
Cheers
Chris
The porker was maybe using high octane fuel - did'nt ask but did explain in quite great length further back in the thread about using higher octane fuel and the reason thereof - if you would care to read it.
_DeeJay_ said:By referring to "we" I mean TVR owners in general, as I'm sure all TVR owners would appreciate a duel like this. good luck with your Porsche they are great cars and I'd maybe be driving one if I could afford one that went like a TVR - however as we all know to do that you have to spend more than double the money (In SA T350 = R625 000.00, GT3 = R1 400 000.00). Boxster "S" roughly R695 000.00 - and compared to the T350 that's a "hairdressers car" - no thanks!

Erm, nevermind. I thought you were replying to the question about the fuel you'd used (he's swapping his TVR, I'm certainly not swapping mine).
Ah well...
