And so it begins

Had the car just 2 days, already there are problems: 1) oil pressure reads around 4-6psi in traffic causing the dashboard to go into warning mode a couple of times, probably just the sender but COME ON Tvr my Chimaera and Cerbera were similar, how many years do they need? 2) Speed sensor intermitant, again my Cerbera was the same, sorry TVR but its not good enough.
Thinking now ive made a mistake, I need a proper car.

In a Michael Winner stylee "Calm down - its only a car" But what a car! I've had loads of trouble with mine (nearly all trim issues) and lost the summer having it all sorted out, when what I should have done is drive it and enjoyed it and let the dealer have it over the winter months to put right. Is yours driveable or are the faults preventing its use? Do you have any warranty?
Speedo - common. Newer sender much better (not heard of a newer one failing - brought out 6-9 months ago).
Oil pressure - yep, TVR still haven't got this one right. They all drip oil. Some read correctly, some don't. My dealer went throuh 4 new ones off their shelf - all failed to work correctly. New batch worked. Mine drips a tiny tiny amount now. Its staying on though since it reads the correct pressure (I hope).
This is two tiny sensors though - don't start moaning about the car already. They haven't stopped the car proceeding. You knew what TVRs are like before you bought this one.

Your right two tiny sensors, so why cant they sort it out and fit decent ones? Just makes me think that if I have these problems in 48 hours, I am going to have countless problems in 2 years+. I thought it might be different, with a 2003 car only 2 years old, but I was wrong.
Add mine to the faulty oil pressure sensor too, although the opposite way. The sensor is maxing out - close to pushing the bar on the display out of the driver window!
Doesn't stop me from throttling up and hearing the JP exhaust claim its territorial rights over all other cars, pedestrians, dogs and any other living thing in the vicinity.
Enjoy it.....

Sure can be a pain if you worry about it-but the reality is its just a sensor glitch.I had three in one day myself and the one I have in now reads ultra low when its cold-I'll get it seen to at the next service as they may have a new batch through by then.
Unless the car is drinking oil or blowing out smoke its unlikely the engine is in trouble.

None of my TVRs - Chimaera 450 (second owner), Tuscan 4.0 and now Tamora Red Rose - have used a drop of oil or leaked or dripped. So I would make such drastic generalisations.

In this case I would.
Give it time - your Tamora's will start to seep oil (only a smidge, not a trickle). It might already be doing so, rub your finger underneath the sender to see. Mine was fine until the 6k service when they replaced it "cos it was seeping". Now the new one is seeping too (but still working fine and the seeping isn't enough to drip).
I'm not trying to put TVR down, but this part is faulty/not up to the job. Fact.

Can't you reject the car and go and buy something Japanese? Just not sure I can take the endless moaning posts.....

Sorry for the above, BUT..... you mentioned you had previous TVRs, so you knew what you were getting into, TVRs are still handbuilt, they are small production numbers and as long as they are small numbers and handbuilt there will always be niggles. Guys, come on, ifyou wernt ready to live with some problems, you shouldnt have bought one.
and before I get eaten alive for my post, my 05' car is already at the factory having a re-spray, Sh*t, I havent had much luck but hey, I have already done 8k miles without problems except some soft shims on the tappets changed at the 6k service. They are special cars so take them for what they are and live with them if you cant buy a porsche and pay more and have less fun!
I took a test drive in one at an independent recently (T350 - 15 months old) and as soon as I got to 4,000 rpm the oil light came on - "
" I exclaimed, "TADTS" was the reply.
This is a bit like the corroding rear badges. It doesn't make the cars crap, but how can one take TVR's claims of commitment to improving quality seriously if they can't get such obvious and damning items right - and this thread proves that the oil pressure sender fault STILL exists on the newest cars. I really do love the idea of owning one but I'm not sure I could commit this amount of money with so many known problems. After a couple more years, 20k is a price range where it becomes bearable.

When you have bought one UH you will find such problems bounce off the armour plated certainty you have knowing you have just bought one of the all time performance and fun bargains. I don't care if I get the occasional spot of oil under the car-it gives me an oppertunity to lift the bonnet and admire my Speed 6 along with any of the passers by who usually stop and have a look as well. Met more of my neighbors since buying this car than any other

but what has hand built got to do with it...
This is what I could never accept.
I'm a guitar-player. If you buy a hand-built guitar, almost without fail you are buying a lovingly crafted product, far better to one that hasn't been built by hand. They're often made from better wood, are finished to a higher degree of precision and are very beautiful instruments to play. Therefore, "hand built" meaning "superior".
So how come with a TVR, "hand built" is used as an excuse?

I think its more cack-handed built than hand built with TVR. I fully understand why some won't accept this. Get a good car and you're OK, get a bad one and you're scarred for life.

I'm glad you said that.
The truth is probably that TADTS because....well, lets be honest....they're cheap.
And I'm not necessarily knocking that. There's something to be applauded for bringing fast cars to the masses.
Plenty to be said against it too in terms of reluctance to implement drivers aids or even offer them as an option. I personally don't buy that this is done to "keep TVRs pure" but as a cost saving factor - the further you push the price nearer to, say, a 911, the more people will question what it is they're getting for the money. Currently, you get more bang for your quid from TVR and so, in a way, they're perceived value is improved.
What I can't get my head around though, is how come Lotus can do it with the Elise etc? Similar product yet they feel better executed....
(I'm not here to cause trouble, I love TVRs....but they're a bit like babies, nicer when they're not yours....
)Im sorry, It seems that my post may of been misunderstood, When I was referring to the hand built i was talking about the build quality. Hand built means that there is always that risk that something was not done properly, are you going to tell me that everybody goes to work gives it 110% everyday and never never makes a mistake.
Come on, be honest we all make mistakes and as these cars are hand built mistakes happen, if you want perfection, buy a BMW etc which are MASS produced in comparison to TVR, tested to destruction with probably as many cars as TVR produce in a year and you know the best thing, built by robot which means that each car is exactly the same. Oh, and by the way, I trade once a Tuscan for a brand new BMW M3, because I was doing to many miles and was worried about reliability, guess what, the M3 ended up being replaced as it just kept breaking down and falling to bits! (if you want proof, an article was published in auto-express about my problems)
What I am trying to say is that porsche could probably sell you the 911 at the same price as a tuscan, but it to would have its problems. I think people do not realise how much large companies invest into developing a new car, many more time the figure that TVR make a year!
TVR owners need to open their eyes a bit, you are buying a car from a tiny car maker, a car with the performances of supercars and price tag of a mass produced car…. Problems, well ifyou cant live with them buy something else, its part of the ownership!

I've had Porkers and Ferraris in the past. They were both built no better than my TVR's (obviously dont sound or look as good either). You wanna here the excuses the dealers came out with when they had problems.
