Hi all,

Well, it had to happen.

Just returned back to the Midlands, after attempting to return home, with the Tiv on a low loader.

Basically, the engine sounds like a bag of bolts - metal grinding on metal. Started at 3K revs and after pulling over, on idle. Not sure but sounds like it's from the cylinder head.

Worse thing is it just came back from its 12K service yesterday. Had the full service including tappets (4 new shims).

I'm gutted.

Paul

Hi Paul, commiserations,a beautiful car, what IS it with that Speed Six,I assume the work just completed is warrantied, lets hope they're going to support you.
What surprises me is that the engine was in production from '99 on in various forms-well before the T350-and now this!
Let us know what happens, and I do hope she's soon making that fantastic straight-six howl.

commiserations, know exactly how you feel, it really is gutting, and after a big service too. You sure that that is not a clue perhaps? Not wanting to point blame but it may make the repair cost less for you......just trying to look on the bright side

Hi,

sorry to hear about your problems, I hope it only a similar problem to me as there are a load of shims for the valve which are a bit dodgy going round the TVR dealers. supposedly a bit soft and so they deform.

Fingers crossed,

Sacha

Might be the same shaft that went on mine a few months ago which, if it is, it sounds hellish but the problem is not that serious. 10 hours was all it took HHC to fix it - but the rub is that the warranty won't pay for it as the shaft worked lose due to a nut being lose. Still ongoing as I haven't paid the £2K they want for it...

I think it were me, I would be asking some pretty serious questions about the car going pop after only been serviced 24 hours beforehand.

I agree, I may well get flamed for saying this, but I sometimes feel that the price we pay for our services sometimes does not reflect in the work done, depending on where you go of course.

Paul, am really sorry to hear of this with that gorgeous car of yours I sincerely hope its not as bad as we all first fear with these things, and I hope your garage can help shed light on the problem swiftly.

Sorry to hear this, hopefully something wasn't torqued down correctly at service and its a simple repair.

Iain,

Yes that was me

Typical, my first spotted and I'm in a layby being recovered!

Hopfully it might just might be finger followers, as there appears to be a new solution to this problem

Is there? wonder if these can be 'retro-fitted', instead of a dreaded engine rebuild!

WOW! That does sound promising! I would assume the price for that mod would be around the £1K mark, instead of the 'bog standard' quote of at least £5K!

I`ve always thought the genuine cost against quoted price for a rebuild was a bit iffy TBH
If you can do the job "in situ" why have none of these so called specialist done it.. let me think about that for a second £££££££££££££££££££££

Sorry to hear that bud, would you get another Tuscan?

I used the £1K mark for the followers, as I know a set is around the £500 mark, so £500 labour should more than cover it, I would have thought.
