Top speed 232 mph!?!?
Discussion
My analogue speedo was about 20 mph behind the digital one (the digital one was correct), so I had a browse through the on-board computer and found that (under the 'factory' section) I could change the zero position of the speedo needle, which I did. Happy days - it now reads the speed correctly.
I also found that there was a screen (under 'recall') which listed the historical minimum and maximum readings of various temperatures and so on, and the maximum rpm and maximum speed. Now, I figured that maybe this is where one can limit the revs or top speed (having read the Evo article and the postings on this forum), so I thought I'd have a play around with it to see what affect it had, but it just reset to zero the maximum recorded rpm and speed, both of which now simply increment to record the latest high-points of each, if you see what I mean.
Fair enough, but before I'd reset the figures, they read a maximum rpm of 6,030 and a maximum speed of 232!!! So, if they record the highest historical readings, does that mean that my car's done 232 mph, or is it just a (very arbitrary) default setting? I've never done that speed in it, of course (I'm still running it in after just 600 miles, and I'm sure it's not capable of it anyway). But is it at all conceivable that it could have been done in its 90 miles or so of test driving, or on a rolling-road dyno?
I just wondered what other people's computers are telling them, and whether people think I shouldn't be going into these other areas of the computer program (I've looked in 'service' as well, but haven't done anything).

TADTS - I was worried about mine reading silly revs in that menu too. Reset it ... checked a few days later and it was silly numbers again. Don't worry - this factory feature obviously gets spurious data (I'm wondering if it picks this up from the moment the dials do the dance as you power up the beastie).
232mph? Hmmm. TVR are going to have to do better than that when even a diesel Audi will do 207mph!

Curiouser and couriouser... my on-board computer is definitely reading correctly my highest rpm and speed. Every time I nudge them a little higher when driving, the computer records their new high points. And the needles' dance upon start-up is definitely not affecting it. So, how did it come to read 232mph and 6,030 rpm? Might it have been on a rolling road, or something similar, at the factory for some reason? Is it even capable of 232mph? Perhaps it would be under test conditions? Or could it just be some arbitrary default setting?

Does anyone know if this can be done with the Tamora 6.1 software? I can't remember off hand if this screen is available or not.

Simple check for you.. How many mph per 1000 rpm do you get? Multiply this by 6.03 to get the maximum possible speed for the maximum rpm recorded. I think you will find it is way less than 232. 232/6.03 = about 38.5 mph per 1000 rpm, reasonable for a low revving diesel, not likely for a high-revving TVR.

Hi
My Speedo does exactly the same could you explain what you did to sort this as my dealer wants to send the pod back to blackpool so an easy fix would be great.
Thankyou Lee

1. Scroll up to the main screen, which advises to press both arrow keys to access the main menu. Press both arrow keys simultaneously.
2. Then scroll to the 'factory' section and again press both arrows to access it.
3. Scroll through the screens (I think there may only be two or three) until you can see a list of settings, two of which are speedo zero and rpm zero (or something like that).
4. Move the arrow next to the one you want to change, press both arrows to select it and then use the arrows to adjust its zero position.
5. When you're done, press both arrows again to set it.
6. Then press both arrows to back-up to the main menu, scroll up to 'normal' and select it using both arrow keys, which will take you to the usual read-out screens. And you're done.
Hmmm... sounds complicated, but really it's quite intuitive once you get going. I'll double-check tomorrow what I've just written, and I'll post any corrections, if there are any.
It's fairly straight forward, though. (Assuming yours is the same as mine, of course.) Good luck.
