Did whoever write this handbook think he was having a laugh or something?
There should be 10mm of fluid visible in the filler neck??? Wtf?

Neck of the expansion cylinder? Neck of the cylinder itself? 10mm visible??? I can barely see inside it, once Ive filled it up I can just about see water, htf do you tell if there is 10mm there or not??

You're telling me. First time I attempted to check the coolant levels it took me over 10 minutes just to take the cap off - I was hindered by the service bonnet. A bit of daft design IMO as just a couple of inches to the right it wouldn't have been a problem . Suppose I could have removed tthe service bonnet but thought it would be too much of a faff on. Ended up filling the coolant almost to the brim as it's that difficult to see what you're doing. Must have done it 'nearly' right as, touch wood, operating temperatures have been fine since .

I use a wooden dowel, 6-8mm dia. and about 500mm long to act as a coolant dipstick - its the only proper way I can check it.

Yes we made the same mistake of reading the handbook. There is also the other clanger in the handbook regarding the size of the fuel tank.

Oh it isnt just me then that think the fuel tank hides that last 3 ltrs very well?

The handbook is also wrong about the picture of the water coolant thingy. Arrow points to the big blue cap on expansion cylinder. It talks about cheeking the coolant levels under the blue cap marked A, unfortunately that is a standard hexagonal brass cap, that isnt blue and is the one it is talking about. As clarified by a quick call to DM.

I suspect TVR hired the out of season donkey man from the prom to write the manual to give him a job in winter.

I was told by the dealer that you should just about be able to feel the water with the tip of your index finger. I have heard of others using a wooden spoon to check the level. Either way - if you over-fill slightly, the excess should steam out.

Wooden spoon for me, but now I have the modified second tank I can just peer in. Typically I leave about 1/3 full.
