Sagaris v's Marcos
Discussion
Now, there's been plenty of comment of late regarding the Sagaris performance as tested by Evo magazine, some of it justified if that particular car was pinking, misfiring etc. etc. Sundays Top Gear, however, put this all into perspective when, what I see as the Sagaris' direct " competitor" the Marcos GT, went round their test track a full four seconds slower than the Saggy! The Hamster liked the car and its somewhat retro styling, but come on, FOUR seconds is not just a points win, it's a knockout in the third! With a supposed 425hp and similar weight I would have thought that the Marcos would have been a lot closer than that. As far as I'm concerned the Sagaris appears still to be the fastest pound for pound car that money can buy, judging by the exotica above it on Clarksons board. Or did I just dream it? Was it really four seconds? Help...
Read the various other threads on this topic.
- Pre-production Marcos
- Dodgy brakes
- V. cold track, frost can be seen on the track edges (I recall that the T350 was figured in similar weather, but the Sagaris was figured in the summer I think - definitely not frosty anyway)
- Concensus seems to be Marcos is set up for road handling rather than ultimate track car
Previous month EVO had DJCs Sagaris and a Marcos back to back - they said the Marcos left the TVR behind unless the TVR driver was right in the power range ready to go.
Now, would I prefer a Sagaris or a Marcos for my £50k? I'd have a T350 with a 4.0L engine ... but thats me. The Marcos looks very nice - just needs space/the dash sorting.
TVR have a serious competitor here. A few seconds a lap here or there is no big deal. If it was we'd all drive £50k Nobles which I think soundly trounced the Sagaris on the TVR test track.

Get your flaming facts right lad. My car was not bloody pinking! Im going to swing for the next gimp who says it was my car that was knackered for ECOTY !

Stop being so vain, I wasnt talking about your car laddy, it was about the yellow one provided by the Frenchies!( I'm sure the article mentioned pinking, maybe I was wrong- but I doubt it).Anyway, I expected a reply concerning Sagaris performance times, but as usual got a load of flannel off someone who's misunderstood. Time to get me coat and retire, I've had enough of it all.... its good, its bad, its fast, no its not,its overrated, its .......I give in, laddy you win, goodbye.

No flannel from me. The Sagaris is faster around the track, its a more track biased car. Reports have shown the Marcos to be more road biased. This doesn't make the Sagaris the fastest car around the track for £50k though.

Well frankly good, Im glad somebody has decided to give it a rest because it was getting annoying. You have all been told how the 2 cars compare and it would seem that a lot of folks still dont either understand or accept what has been said. Seeing as how the person who has given you flannel is also the only one in a position around here to give a perspective as to the 2 cars on the road and already has done in another thread, I thought the question has already been answered.
A fast driven Sagaris on "drivers road" wont lose a GT2 and a GT2 wont lose the Sagaris. Hell if y'all really want to know the truth, a diesel 307 stuck with us for the most part and the supercharged Rangie Sport was just as fast most of the time. Im sorry if that spoils the petrolhead illusion but there you go. Perhaps the 1/10 second boys might shut up now.

Speaking as a "neutral":
He wasn't talking about your car though, DJC! He was referring to the one in the car of the year thrash.

Who gives a feck....
DJC & I have one and that probably puts us in a btter postion to comment on the Sagaris, but when it comes to other cars they all have the merits. You pays your money.......
It's good to have competition, makes the choice of car more interesting.
Agreed dvp.
Besides I quite like the Marcos
Different car to the Sagaris though.parke said:

You'll be back. The guy's unmissable. He's about the only reason I stop by occasionally now. His mixture of contradictory, illiterate, hyperbolic and offensive posts are unique. It's a mystery to me why others continue to take him seriously. But I concede it's great entertainment.
Just re-read the article in evo last night. Good luck to Marcos. The old school TVR brigade should be delighted as it's just what they've been asking for.
I also concede that it must be stupidly fast to be any quicker than my car at all. But I was never that taken with the marcos's looks and I think the central instruments are awful.
But parking the marcos next to DJC's car does it no favours. It's probably quite a cool looking car in isolation but in direct comparison to an RC Sagaris it looks like it should cost about half the price. For a small difference in similarly ballistic performance I'll take the Sagaris every time on looks alone.
While they are on-paper rivals I don't and wouldn't consider it as an alternative to my Sagaris. And certainly neither is the Porsche Gayman. Not that anyone's that interested but if TVR didn't make the Sagaris I'd have a T350RR or Tuscan S. Non TVR cars? It would have to be the Supercharged Lotus Exige or maybe a Nissan 350Z and spend the change on serious tuning.

Heheh - I saw the Porsche 'Gayman' out on a test drive on Sat. Didn't do anything for me, but I won't slag it because I haven't driven it and also a friend has ordered one to replace his Tuscan - I'll have to try and get him to change his mind though!
We saw a chap in a nice new F430 as well and I was pleased to note that my GF still rated the Sag above either Porsche or Ferrari on looks. She knows a good looking piece of kit when she sees it
