Hi, I wonder if anyone can help?
I'm declaring my sports exhaust to my motor insurance company on renewal this month. Do they ask for the manufacturer, type etc? What kind of weighting will they put on my premium? Thanx for any replies

Hi,

Priv. put a ~20% loading for the 4L RR and the Smolenski/TVR Power exhaust.

This was based on the power being increased from the 350bhp to 406bhp so falling into the 12% to 20% band if I remember.

I seem to remember I read elsewhere on here that they did a ~£70 increase in premium with someone else for having a Sports exhaust.

Thanx fairclp,A bit steep! I thought there was a consensus of opinion that adding a sports exhaust may actually slow the car down a bit

Is there really a 56bhp increase just from a sports exhaust !!
Thats quite an acheivement. Are they much louder than the original factory exhausts and do they have a de cat in them?

The additional premium for mine was for for the engine change - going from a normal 3.6 to the 4L Red Rose - plus a performance exhaust. It was banded into the power increase of 11-20%.

There was a thread about exhausts here:

On the VX it added about 20%

Which seems steep but they've got a captive market...

What 'sports exhaust' - they all left the factory like that .. didn't they ?

I never put it on - so : hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil .. as the old saying goes.

TVR Power did some exhausts for Smolenski (for his T350) which is basically the same layout as the factory big bore (single box) but with much better looking tail pipes and baffle changes.

Not as loud as the super sports, but, loud enough. Pops and bangs all the way from 3K to 2K with no effort on the over-run with mega resonance driving at 2.5K.

I got the impression from Dom that the de-cat route is not one to go for.

Faircp quoted the 'RR' Red Rose power increased 56 bhp - the sports exhaust probably adds little or nothing or maybe even looses..

Priv want £78 more for my non-performance enhancing sports exhaust.
They did specifically ask if it was made of stainless steel. I presume this is another excuse to raise the premium as a replacement would cost more then a mild steel one

Ditto for me. I told them it didn't increase the power, was stainless steel and they didn't charge any more.

Changing the thread slightly, what about any warranty, anyone got any idea what effect it might have on a factory warranty?
