Does anybody know if the ECU in the Tam (or any TVR) adjusts itself to take advantage of the super unleaded? Or is it fixed? You'll know what I'm talking about if you read Sprint (latest edition).

If it is fixed surely there’s no point using Optimax (no performance gain!!), for anything other than its cleaning properties.

Can't I just add an injector cleaner or a tank of super every once in a while, and save myself a whole lot of money by buying cheaper supermarket fuel?

Errr no. Just the first.

I would suggest the assumption regarding Optimax is correct, and if the cleaners are good quality, then that should suffice.

I use normal 95 octane pump fuel for normal road use.

I use normal 98 octane pump fuel and octane booster for track use. Thats a "piece of mind" thing.

Hi,

Don't know if the ECU adjusts for the extra octaine in the 98 grade fuel. What i do know is that on my Tam the Knock sensors aren't connected. It is these that detect pinking due to lower grade fule and adjust timing accordingly. So if the ECU does adjust, then it must get the info another way.

All i know is that my Tam runs better on 98 obtaine, smoother and more Mpg, but in traffic / commuting the extra cost insn't worth it, so only use this when on a run etc....

Well I would say Yes because the S6 has knock sensors. Correct me if I am wrong but the ECU will retard the igntion if pre ignition is detected. In that case the ECU will run more advance with optimax than it will with 95 or 97 octain fuels, everything else being equal. Or have I missed something?

As i said previously. My tams Front and rear Knock sensors aren't connected, they just dangle from the engine loom. I know of a number of others that are the same.

The wiring loom for the T350 and the Tamora was borrowed from Rover as I recall, or could be Vaxhuall, where the Knock sensors are used. The wiring loom was never altered and the sensors are not used on TVR's. You should find two leads with the yellow cover with KNOCK on then, one at the from of the engine and one at the back on the wiring loom, both not being used

I run ours on Shell optimax, apart from in mainland europe when all 98 ron fuels are fine. I find that the performance is extremely poor on 95, and its very rough. For me its worth the extra money, even at silly london fuel prices and thanks to www.petrolprices.com/ I can even find my cheapest shell in the area!

cheers
