Took the Tamora out today and each time I started it the noise that occurs after the start up sequence didn't happen. I thought it was the fuel pump but I have not experienced any side effects, as it started and ran fine all day and after several startups. Should I be worried ?

Let me get this right - you're worried because you can't hear any squeaks or rattles from your TVR? Come to think of it - so would I!

I take you mean the petrol pump priming?

I don't think its the petrol pump you can 'sometimes' hear when you turn the key, ready to start the car up. I am 99.9% sure that's the heater motor you can hear, you only hear it sometimes because sometimes you leave the heater fan switch left on when you turn the ignition off!

I though it was the oil pump priming??? not 100% though. If it runs fine ok, but i can understand your concern.

I am probably worrying over nothing, just seemed I was missing something. Ps I always thought the noise was the fuel pump!

I've always got this whining noise from the back end too. There's a chance for innuendo if ever I saw it. I assumed it was normal.

I believe, i may be wrong, that you only need to press the button on the key to start the fuel pump if you havent started the engine within a certain time after unlocking the car ie if the immobiliser has kicked in. If you get in and start the engine straight away you wont notice the fuel pump coming on.

The sequence is as follows:

1. Unarm the car from your remote.
2. You then have 20 seconds to get in and start the car, otherwise the immobilizer cuts back in and disables the fuel pump.
3. If you are beyond the 20 seconds, you then have to press the button on your remote (or insert the immobilizer key into the dash), that will then start the fuel pump which is the loud noise you can hear. You can then start the car.

In addition, the deep base note you "sometimes" here is as Chris says, the heater motor. Try pressing the heater strength button on/off during the start up sequence to hear it.

More like 8 seconds on my car. Definitely not 20 anyway.

yes about 8 seconds on mine! I always turn the heater off when I park, because I hate the noise when I start!

I've not heard any heater noise, only what I thought was the fuel pumps priming (same as my old Chimaera). Must turn the heater off and check next time.

Hopefully get out in the car this weekend as I fly home tomorrow - I've been in the US for 3 weeks now and I'm suffering from withdrawel symptoms (although I hear you've had some cold weather - fine here in San Fran ). I think I've forgotten what real cars look/sound like :-)

I know I nipped over to SF for some sun! Got an H2 as my company car for a week. Great fun, just embarrased by the fuel consumption!

If you have the heater switched on then you will hear a deep hum when you turn on the ignition. Pressing the button to switch off the heater will make the noise go away! Give it a try.
