Off to the Rolling Road Saturday
Discussion
Had an offer to take my Ultima to a rolling road in Northampton but never managed to get it there before I sold it, the same guy has now offered to do the Sagaris for me.
I know these are meant to be 406bhp but I'm sure I've read that they can range from 390-400. Has anyone has there's tested?
It's only going to cost £20 so I think I'll go for it anyway.

Why go all the way to Northampton?
How about......www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=237636&f=152&h=0
Already got a couple of Tuscans going from Essex - why not come along?

I wouldn't advise rolling roading your car until it is fully run-in. Really, even after the 1,000 miles service they still have a way to go until they're fully fit and free-revving! If you think about where the peak power is produced would you want your nearly new car sat screaming on the rollers? Hope you got your screen sorted ok! Best regards to all, Tony Abrams
I'd agree that putting some more miles on it would be best before putting on the rollers. My car at 4600 miles is noticeably quicker than it was after it first service and I expect things to improve further. For one thing the car doesn't run on fully synthetic oil until it's 6000 mile service (it's to allow sufficient engine wear to run the engine in properly and no it's not an eccentric tvr thing, Honda do exactly the same thing on their S2000 and we all know how good they are at building engines). It might be my imagination but surely an engine has to produce more power and rev better on super frictionless synthetic oil?
Nooooooo!! Don't put him off!
It's bad enough only being able to put together a handful of SP6 cars for a RR day!
Pitiful.....really pitiful.
1 Sagaris and 1 350 (and that's only a maybe!)
Is everyone who owns a Sag, 350 or Tamora really that uninterested in their cars performance?!?
They don't have this trouble on the Cerbera Forum!
Bunch of Pussies I reckon!!!
...maybe a bit of reverse psychology...
Alright, I don't want you to come!!!

the thing is, I'm more interested in my car's on road performance than some numerical reading and graph on a piece of paper.
The trouble is every dyno will read differently and cars will produce different reading's according to temperature, air pressure, fuel used etc.
So, for me all that 'mine has 390 and yours only has 385' is all a bit silly. I understand that's why you want to get more than one car there because different readings on different dynos on different days don't mean an awful lot.
Besides there's already enough 'hoo har' about the downgrading of the 4.0S engine from 406 to 380 on the tvr website. Strangely it doesn't seem to matter that the car's performance hasn't been reduced, just the way the power is measured.
The Sagaris posted a 0-100 time of 8.5 seconds in Autocar (two up, full tank of fuel etc.) which is plenty fast enough for me, whether or not it says 380 or 406 on the dyno sheet.

Fair enough, but why not just come out for a blast, get together with a collection of other TVR's, have a good day out and then maybe a pint afterwards?
Believe me, it isn't just the numbers on the graphs that concern me!!
If it wasn't for the fact that I'm still running-in the engine I would take you up on the offer.

Agree it's the actual acceleration delivered that matters.
I guess dyno-run days can be fun though for a comparison 'on the day', but mostly ideal for setting engine up or measuring effect of mods since last time... not always good news!
IMO if you really want to know that your 'steed is up to speed', not difficult to put a stopwatch to a few 20mph increments fairly accurately & compare with the original's roadtest figures. So far my TVRs have been reassuringly close to the originals, more so than some other marques....

Yes, but not nearly as much fun as watching your car scream its' heart out on a set of rollers..........

Or perhaps if you want to know the exact shape of your power and torque curves to optimise yourr straight line pace to try and keep up with ridiculously well driven T350's.

I would say go for it mcclark .. notice in your profile the car had done 1100 miles in december and now it's february, so it's likely to have 2k on it by now (if not why buy it if you're not going to drive it? lol) .. if everyone waited until after their 6k service to open them up most owners wuoldn't feel the full peformance for two years!!
go for it .. if it blows up it's under warranty anyway.

That's more like it!
Well said Sir!
Trackcar,
Yep, the car had 1100 miles on it when I picked it up. It now has some 2500, with another 300 by the weekend.
I bought the car to drive at every possibility and so far have managed to do that (except for waiting for the new screen!!).
By April I'll be way up in th 4k range anyway and hope to have had my 6k service by the time I leave for the Le Mans Classic in July

If it blows are you sure its covered by warranty? 2500 miles? Too tight, don't go there - nothing to be gained other than dissapointment for the owner and fodder for the anti- S6 brigade.
