Tamora - mod to boot so roof fits
Discussion
I have read and spoken to people about putting some spacers before the bracket in the boot, so that the boot lid opens up more vertically, making it easier to put the roof in. I have a 2005 Tam, and put two quarter inch rubber washers under the bracket that the gas strut is connected too. However, firstly it didnt seem to make a great deal of difference to the angle of the boot lid, but secondly and more importantly, the ball joint of the strut just touches the inside of the bodywork when I shut the boot lid.
Anyone got any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Is it possible this mod works on the early model, but not the revised version?

Steven - now I am confused. The only place I can put the spacers is under the bracket, and therefore touching the boot. If I just put them under the bolts that screw into the boot lid, then I cant see it will make any difference to the length of the strut. So I agree that the strut needs to be extended, but cant think how else it can be done other than to put the spaces under the bracket that is the fixing point of the strut.
It is still early, so I might be being a bit thick!

Ian, my spacers are at top of the strut (ie immediately above the black barrel). You unscrew the strut, which has a long thread, insert steel washers/spacer and then rescrew back into place.
Although the roof went in ok before the mod, afterwards it is really easy. I know some garages (eg TVR Racing Green) have the done the same mod to older Tams.

Only time I have seen the mod was at the last Tam meet. Then the spacers were between the bracket and the boot lid. Seemed to work, but raised the boot slightly.
Any chance someone could post a pic of the washers on the strut?
Either that or who'll volunteer to bring a bag of washers in June? We could have a masterclass.

Just spent 5 minutes in the garage, and I think I have sorted it. Easy job, and no tools required. Havn't tried the roof yet, but it looks to have done the job.
Is the washer the plastic white bit?
It looks like it, but it is actually 3 metal washers that are reflecting the flash.
They are in between the black strut, that you unscrew, and the brass spigotty bit.
