What does it mean when steam is hissing out of the bonnet!! slightly embarassing moment at the weekend!! Seemed fine once i got moving again.
The water temp sensor is gone i know that but i always thought the underlying temps were ok. Does this hissing steam suggest not?!
Do i need to fill something up to sort this?
sorry, ignorant on these type of things!

Presumably the fans didn't come on. Are the fans controlled by the ECU on yours? If so, then depending which temp sender it is that has gone this could be a side-effect. Or it might just be a blown fuse or failed relay. Running without the temp gauge isn't a good idea in any case because it means you don't get a chance to notice any anomalies in the temperature before it is too late. By the time the engine is hot enough to boil over, it's hot enough to start suffering heat damage.

I assume its a Tamora or T350.
It probably means that you put too much water in last time you filled it. These cars lift the hader tank cap on overpressure and let a puff of steam out where the end of the bonnet dissapears into the front clam.

yeah t350 - yeah thats what happened - let out a puff og steam several times but only when stuck in traffic. Assumed the fans were still on - need to check that. Was fine when driving but quickly increased when in traffic. sensor measuring 100 - 118 but flicking around all sorts of temps within seconds...
i haven't filled it up for about month so wouldn't have thought it is connected to an overfill. I think the sensor is either affecting the fans or some other temp controller...?
