Guys/girls,
probably a question that has been asked a million times before, but, i am new to the T350 world, so, what to look out for, what is the difference between the "Red Rose " and the standard car, and is it worth it, are there any upgrades that you think the car should have had or any achilles heel to watch out for. My budget is probably 25-30k is that enough to get a decent one.
Thanx, Steve.

Definitely get air conditioning. Buy on condition. If out of warranty get one of the TVR-approved warranties - either have the seller get this done, or at least the pre-purchase inspection for the warranty (do a search on this forum - TVR Power and other dealers offer the warranty for any car under 5 years old).
Red Rose spec cost a whole heap of cash from the factory. I'd always buy a std car you feel good about over a Red Rose car you don't know the history of. Find out who owned the car and how they treated it. Don't be afraid of buying private as long as you get a good TVR respected dealer inspection.
There's a lovely looking Reflex Green Targa in the classifieds section - a serious bargain judging by the info provided in the ad!
Red Rose gave 375hp and some increase in torque (TVR quote 290ft lb std at 5000rpm). I'm not sure what the lighter body is - never seen any real proof there is such a thing (anyone got a weighing machine? I'm happy to provide my car as a std example). I think it might have bigger brakes too. I believe it cost over £3,000.
If you buy a car with a non-Red Rose engine is can be tuned by Mark Adams (Austec) for around £880. This guy works magic and for half a day's trip to Crawley it is possible to get Sagaris-type power/torque figures if you've got a really good engine (going by TVR's latest Sagaris figures which are 380hp and 349ft lb at 5000rpm).

Although not a Targa, do you mean this one?

Looks amazing and like any TVR i reckon the ones that are highly spec'd with full leather, air con, and the reflex paint work tend to get snapped up at re-sale.
Just to update this thread, I had my first test drive today at David Gerald sportscars, Doug was very helpful, had plenty of time to go through anything I needed to know, good bunch of lads in the workshop as well.
More than I can say for the people at Cheltenham, couldn't even be bothered to start the car up, coz it had a flat battery, have they never heard of a power pack.
Anyway back to the test drive, that sound is to die for, and a real drivers car, I took one out with the roof panels and yes they were noisy, think they might get on my nerves after a while, asked about the "Red Rose" model, was told that the rumours of the body being lighter were rubbish, basically more BHP, bigger brakes and uprated rear suspension, but who needs it.
I definately think you need A/C, the cabin was getting quite hot, imagine what it would be like in the summer.
The only thing that I have to get used to is the build and finish quality, I keep comparing it to the BMW I drive at present, and as Doug pointed out, you are just not going to get it in a TVR, the money is spent on the performance side of things.
On with the search now, I've been bitten.
Steve.

All this roof panel noise talk is usually because they're not fitted right. The panels should be completely silent up to at least 80mph, not making much noise until above 100mph.
If I take the time to fit mine right they are silent up to 100mph (i.e. you don't know you're in a targa over a coupe). If its really head/side windy you get whistling above this speed. If it's not so windy you don't get anything until 120mph.
If I fit them badly they whistle like a whistley thing above 60mph.
The only time they've been annoying is cruising in Europe at above 100mph for long distances. In the UK my girlfriend tends to doze off in the passenger seat, so now when I go above 120mph she now wakes up :innocent:

I think it might be outside your price range, but mke me a sensible offer and I could be persuaded to let her go at a slightly lower price, as long as it's to a good home!
