My pride and joy ( 04 T350T) is in the dealership with a very worrying problem, the fuel tank has a hole in it!!!!!! The hole appears to have been caused by a chassis bolt head rubbing against the tank!! This is very worrying as the car could have caught fire at any point as petrol was dripping onto the exhaust! The hole is right in the bottom corner, the other side appears to be doing the same.
Just thought I'd let you guys know, incase yours' is doing the same (I hope not).

Thanks for the warning - I'll go out and check later!

Let us know how quick the repair is and what it costs.

The story is ongoing at the mo, the car has been at the dealers since Friday, but I've not heard whether the Factory will be footing the bill. As far as I'm concerned this is a safety/design/manufacturing problem and as such should be sorted by the Factory. Targarama, I hope yours is OK. Anyone else that you know should be checking theirs!!

Mines at the dealers right now having it's passenger window rubbers sorted. As mine was built in early 05(near to 04) i've asked them to check it to. They responded by saying that each car is built different so it shouldn't be an issue, it was probably a longer bolt they had lying round when your car was built. But i've asked them to check anyway.

I'll let you know what they say.

The hole(s!!) in the tank are caused by the head of a bolt rubbing against the tank so the length of the bolt isn't a problem. Check it out, there's no gap at all on my machine. Hope yours is OK , the tank alone is 1K+ without fitting!!!!!!!

not the same problem exactly but when my Tuscan's tank breather hole got blocked the pump sucked in the walls of the tank leading to creases in the wall and pinholeing. This was fixed F.O.C.

Just looked at mine. Those bolts do seem to be touching the tank slightly. Scarey. It looks like there are dimples in the tank where its supposed to line up with the chassis bolts ... my tank seems slightly too low for the dimples/bolts to line up. Anyone elses like this?

I'm not overly keen on the tank being behind the chassis/rollcage either. Heavy rearenders could be dangerous.

The tank is also totally exposed to anything the rear wheels could flick up. There is about 6mm gap between mine and this bolt head. I also put rubber underneath the tank to stop the undertray banging on it at high speed.

Mine did exactly the same last year.

TVR footed the bill for the replacement tank & all associated works.

How many more?? Don't get me wrong guys I absolutely love the car and this is the first thing that has really gone wrong (apart from the usual oil & temp sensors and rear end being too soft for it's own good!) but this could be a very dangerous issue.

Yes it was out of its warranty period.

Harrogate said Blackpool were 'very interested' in what had happened & that it was a design flaw which would be changed on new cars.

Mine isn't leaking, but after looking quickly the bolts look ultra close to the tank. This weekend I think I'll cut some rubber chunks and wedge them into the gap between chassis bolts and the tank just in case (sorry if this sounds anal, I've never had a TVR let me down in 8 years of TVRing - due to preventative maintenance).

Under the back of the car behind the axle/diff above the frontmost part of the rear splitter. You can see how close it is to the chassis by looking/shining a torch through the rear wheels.

Maddog - you've got a Tamora, if its like any other convertible TVRs the tank will be safely tucked into the boot and this shouldn't be an issue.

Well my dealer has 'assured' me that my car is ok and there is nothing touching or even close to touching around the fuel tank.

I'm still going to get on me hands 'n knees this weekend though and have a look for myself!

Picked my car up last Friday, fixed (new tank! £880+vat at the moment still up in the air as to who is paying, though I've had to syump up for the recovery to the dealership £140+vat!!!! TVR might get that bill too as the car was unsafe to drive). Had a blast out last night, over 100miles in not very long, brought that TVR smile back, a bit.
Hope everyone else has checked their cars for this potentially HOT situation!

Checked mine when it was on ramps recently. The tank is touching the chassis rear bolts on both sides. Doesn't appear to be moving/rubbing, but its definitely resting. I'm keeping a close eye on it, and will mention it to my dealer once they get the headgasket repairs underway (see thread titled 'bugger').
