Warranty Options
Discussion
I should be picking up my second T350 over the weekend and i'm looking around for a half decent warranty, just wondered what warranties peeps have and if they think they're any good?
I've already used the search but theres doesn't seem to be much recent info on warranties, so any feedback / advice appreciated.

I have to say, I do wonder if the AA parts and labour warranty you can take out for around an extra £50 on top of your AA membership is the best option, and will cover you for the about same amount of work that the expensive 'official' warranty would? Have a look on the thread about this warranty in the S6 forum to see if it's worth it.
I did have an Auto Protect warranty, only cost £400 at the time, gone up three fold since though, but they did pay out £600 for work done to my flaps (heater!!)

I looked at the AA warranty. Trouble is that you need to have called out the AA following the car failing to proceed before the warranty kicks in. Every job I've ever had done on a TVR has not been due to a breakdown. i.e. in 8 years of TVRing I've not had one breakdown (one flat battery excluded and I knew that was on its way out).
T/.
I have got the TVR approved warranty but luckily have not had to try it out yet.
There are two prices one to include wear and tear and one without. The difference was (I think) about £500 over a 2 year warranty but its probably worth at as otherwise I'm sure anything that went wrong would be claimed as wear and tear.

I've just spoken to Hexham, the wear and tear is an extra @ around £300 in addition to the normal warranty.
That makes the TVR approved one quite pricy, but if they actually pay up when you need it, its worth it. We just need to know if they are paying up.......

warranties like lunch is for wimps :-)
i aint got one im taking my chances, if it pops it pops. just buy another engine off ebay.
I think you'll find that new models have quite a few prototype gremlins for the first 2 or so years.
My Tam has been very naughty over the last 4 weeks or so. I'll let you know how much having a warranty has saved me when I get the final invoice but it's probably into 4 figures.
So far they have paid for a new shock absorber and 1 hrs labour to fit it - probably around the £250 mark all in.
And how much is your warranty per annum? Why not just stick £100 a month into a maintanance account. Thats £1200 a year in case you need it. Lets face it, if your engine pops will your warranty cover a £5k rebuld? Chances are it wont cover the whole amount.
Warranties.....not for me. I'll pay £100 per annum to the AA for upto 3 x £500 claims per annum. If it goes wrong the car goes to Torque RVT, very fair prices. Then again my company foots all my motor expenses so i have diferent circumstances to most.
Cheers

Right.
Car is 2 years old in June this year.
10k on the clock.
Bill was £1250 for clutch and pod ECU (blew up while at the menders!).
I paid £150.
Think I'll be renewing my warranty this year.
I'm due to renew my warranty soon. Can I ask which warranty this was?
Can't decide whether the TVR 'Official' warranty is the way to go. It seems a lot of money, and my Tamora has been pretty trouble free in the 2 years I've had it.

You've answered your own conundrum. Your company pays, not you.
Since clutches are reputed to last between 15 and 30k miles, engines need an expensive rebuild of some kind before 30k miles and things like door control units, heater control units, aircon compressors, PAS motors go more regularly than they would on a German car, it is prudent to cover against this.
Note: the AA warranty only comes in if the fault causes the car to fail to proceed, you call the AA man out and they agree. In other words you have to wait for the car to break down.
We've had no warranty on our TT since the Audi one ran out (car is now 6 years old) and my 122k A6 has no warranty, neither does my brother's 1997 318is. But I will still take one out on the TVR.
AA have got a new scheme called breakdown repair cover, it's £65 a year and you're allowd 5 claims of up to £500 per year. You do have to call out the AA when you breakdown but they classify a breakdown as any old warning light coming on etc not just your engine falling out on the motorway. So if your speedo or oil senors go or something along those lines they told me they'd cover it as long as you call up AA first and let them have a look at it. To me it sounds pretty perfect for a TVR i'm going to do it and just cross my fingers the engine doesn't explode.

Patrick.
I bought the car privately and paid £25 to transfer it to my name.
I'll let you know how much it will be to renew when I've talked to the Autoprotect people.
I don't want to have to worry about engine rebuilds or other items going bang. Plus I wouldn't buy without a current warranty and I reckon it will be essential for when I sell the car to get my Tuscan II.

I still think its worth it and will probably take on out when my car's 2 years old this June (so out of manufacturers' engine warranty).
