I've been itching to buy a T350 for over a year now but can't quite justify it to my wife when money needs spending on the house. This weekend I got the bombshell... you can buy one if you sell the bike. I have a Ducati 916 Senna II (number 000) and swore I would never sell it but this plus my S2000 might make the TVR affordable.

Any bikers out there, would you sell up for a TVR.

Not a biker (although the OH wishes I was) and my way of thinking is they compliment each other.

Is there no way you can keep the bike and have a T350..?

Not much use I know - sorry. Just a thought though..?

I quite agree, I've had the bike a while now and it used to share the garage with a 4.0 Griff but that had to go because the services were getting more and more expensive and I wanted a sports car that my wife would at least try and drive.

I reckon I could finance both but it's more a case of justifying it.

Whereabouts are you based just out of interest..? I know a few guys that run both.

I know where your coming from. I'm just having a problem with parting with something so rare. I think I'm more hooked on the idea of owning it than using it.

Selling a Ducati 916 Senna - now that's a nightmare decision. I run a Ducati 916 Biposto and a TVR Griffith 500, and I'd be loathe to give up either. Haven't you got a child you could sell instead? Seriously though, I do have a similar quandry - I'm contemplating selling the Griff and my Range Rover to buy a Sagaris, but I've been agonising over that one for a couple of months already. In fact I've been putting off test driving the Sag demonstrator at Castle's in case it finally tempts me!

I own an R6 along with a T350, IMO its pointless selling the bike. It should be so cheap to keep it that it doesn't matter - unless you need the cash from the bike sale to actually buy the TVR.

I love the bike, gets a lot more adrenaline going than the Tiv

At least keep the bike at first, see if you can work it out....

Agree, in the grand scale of things, unless you are doing all sorts of mods to the bike the cost of ownership will be f@ck all compared with what you're going to be paying out if you get the T350.

I did pretty much the reverse of you, in that I sold the T350 to get, ultimately, the thing I've always wanted, ie. a motorbike (and a sensible car). The other half got a Boxster S out of the deal, so happy all round.

Whilst the T350 is indeed a brilliant car & I would never put people off owning one, I would point out that they ain't going to give a thrill anywhere near that of the one you'll get on a bike. All IMO obviously.

Hard choice.... but indeed a nice one to have

Thanks all.

Looks like the concensus is keep the bike and I think that is what I was hoping to hear. I think I'll just be happy with the S2000 for a bit longer (it is a fun car after all), do some more saving and reinstate my old Tiv/Duc garage later.

You don't see 916 Senna's often in the classifieds for good reason. But presumably the deal with the mrs is about your safety, not cash. The more exciting people say the bike is here, the worse it is for your mrs. I have a Kawasaki ZX12R and a Sagaris and the Kwak is truly bonkers in a straight line but if someone told me I had to part with one of them it would reluctantly be the Kwak. And I adore everything about bikes but the fun/risk calculation weighs heavily in favour of the Sagaris. You can't ride with commitment in much safety on the road in a bike or on the track for that matter. Unless you're mick doohan it's all about staying well within your's and the bike's limits if you want to get to be an old biker. The Sagaris, like the t350 I had before it, can mesmerize and captivate you on your favourite road like no other car..... that is until you reach the inevitable UK traffic jam!

I also had an S2000 before the TVR experience and it was fun and I loved driving it roof down but after a back to back drive with a TVR it's clear it's a pup playing in the big dog's yard!

...well, it's about time someone argued in favour of the TVR here!

Both have many +'s & -'s.

All I would say is that at, or near the 'limits' of either I wouldn't want to have an accident.

Personally I'd keep the bike, but then I've had a T350.

I know when I first test drove the TVR it felt like nothing else I'd driven before & there was no way I was walking away from the dealership that day without an order for one in my back pocket. The same applies for the R6 now.

Hard decision.

Everyone should have tried the TVR thing though at least once

I like this.

Yes I know what I am missing. I sorely miss the old Griff.

You are right about my wife being concerned about safety. I also completely agree with your fun/risk calculation. I can't ride a bike at the same n tenths as a car (due to complete lack of talent on a bike and a healthy dose of fear). The extra bit of cash would make the deal a lot easier because I've just taken on a huge mortgage and don't want to get into more finance.

The thing that makes me want to hang on to the bike is the fact that it is the first Senna II off the line (#000 of 300) and this is the nearest I will ever get to owning a completely individual/collectable vehicle. My problem is that the desire to get a TVR is begining to out weigh this and I should shift the S2000 before it depreciates off the map.

I think if I am running my finances this tight at the moment I am not ready for the TVR. I already have experience of the servicing costs, I don't think I ever had one flat rate rate service on th Griff.

In your shoes I would find a way to have both.

Even if it means hiding the bike.

But surely you can justify keeping the bike "for those moments when the TVR is having work done on it".

It's a rare machine. Would be a hard one to sell. But you shouldn't miss out on the Tiv.

If it comes down to it and you buy the T350 and sell the bike, talk to me about it. Might be able to come up with some sort of caretaker arrangement. I live in Battersea but spend weekends in Brookwood and family are Godalming and Oxshott.

Strangely enough - I'm in the Woking / Guildford area : if you and your wife want to look around a T350 then you are more that welcome.

Rev,

Thanks for the offer. I will take you up on that if negotiations at home progress. I would also like to chat to an owner about what to look for/expect but I will leave this until I am definitely committed.

I used to have bikes but gave them up as I want to increase my life expectancy.. time to calm down a bit

My G/F drives the T350 too (back from the pub )- it has room for the shopping trips and garden centre : so long as we don't go silly.

Very practical supercar.

Running costs not too bad but these things are never really cheap.

If you don't buy a T350 now, you'll still have the option to buy one (or it's successor) in 3 years, or whatever. If you sell bike #000 of a limited production run, you've got (I'd guess) no chance of ever owning it again, and that would be a shame.
