OK

I am having an issue. The car has been running well, but this afternoon after going to the yellow meet and turning the car from yellow to brown I thought I would wash it. That went fine, parked it in my garage and went back tonight to put the cover on it as I can not use it for a few days and noticed the dash as on with a power 245 dash code.

Then i noticed the doors were locking and unlocking themselves. My immediate though was i hvae been here before, this is the same issue I had when my ecu got water in it.

So where are the ecu's because I want to dry them. As it is I have removed a few fuses and manage to disable the doors from constantly locking themselves by removing the fuses that control the dashboard and the rear fog lights.

I have left the doors open. Interestingly the engine starts and appears to run! The car is safe because its nicely protected by alarms and garage etc.

Ideas please. If not I guess I need to take it to the dealer hopefully wihtout conking out on the way.

cheers

ECU's are in the drivers footwell, RH side or tie wrapped nearer the column
Morrored on passenger side where the alarm/immobiliser is as well i think

I had this - cleaned and reseated everything and all was ok

Hope that helps

Some are marked as such I think. Collection of metal and plastic boxes etc. I am afaid it is perseverance in getting the panel out - Chrissy had to put it back in as i had lost my patience by them.

Best advice is to open the panel up, move the control boxes and then have someone gently ( perhaps out of a squeezable bottle) run water around the windscreen area above that location and even move it around. Watch the area under the dash with a torch. You might be able to see where it is coming in then.

The use some automotive sealant - available from most stores - to plug the leak

Yep it was the passenger side ecu. As soon as i plug it in it goes barmy. So I have removed it for now!

As its late and its in my garage I guess I can try and find the fault later. I found the nearside indicator is loose so I wonder if the water could have got in through that.

On the ECU the plug has staining from water. I am leaving it on the side to dry, in case it fixes itself.

Eitherway it was a great lesson in learning about the car, not that I am wishing more faults!

I wonder if it could be from the heat exchanger seals as well?

Do you think wrapping the ecu in a bag and changing it do that it faces up and its cable is the lowest point may help (not sure I have enough slack mind).

Thanks for your help.

Well - might be an option, but i am not sure abut the bag idea as there may be heat issues?

As you say - orient the cable?

Another one to try is see if it is coming down the loom and reseal the grommet where the ingress is happening?

What we need is a "bible" like Steve did for the Chim/Griff!

If you have not sorted it before the Meet - I can see what we will end up doing!! I do love tinkering with this sort of problem!

Tonights plan is to see if drying it out helps! I have phoned the dealer and I am getting to get a spare and one for the drivers side because I have figured they are usefull things to have. As for the leak I am not sure how to tack it. Coming down the loom is highly possible!

Yep the drying worked!! Thanks for your help Coach. I am going to take some photos over the weekend so people find it easier to find these things! I am also going to get the water test done at the dealers because I want to change the brakes, add some magnecor leads and change the tyres ready for the furball 5000 trip plus stock up on some spares (accelerator cable, fuses, bulbs) and a mini training course on how to fit them!

cheers
